After playing Season 5 for a bit, I'd say my review has gone from negative to mixed. The new overclocks that they have added were a breath of fresh air, some of them are very gimmicky which is awesome, it allows for some new playstyles and adds more interesting ways to play a class. Genuinely very good part of the season.
I also liked the fact that the season wasn't really themed around anything, having evil stuff happening on Hoxxes every year felt a bit comical. The new enemies are alright, Stalker has his place and has his moments, the aoe spitballer type enemy sounds cool but so far he feels a bit weak, Scalebramble is ok but I kinda don't get understand the point of his existence, like is he meant to be a little time waster to look out for when entering a new cave (similiar to cave leeches)??
This season felt more like an update we used to get which is fine by me. I still think it's funny they're called seasons though.
However, I'm still mixed because of the way overclock system works. I had friends who dropped the game when they realized they'd have to come back weekly to play to get cool new upgrades for their guns, they couldn't progress at the pace they wanted. And even back when I was on the grind myself, I wasn't a big fan of it too at times. Getting matrix cores upon promotions was a step in the right direction, it was something I wished for a long time. Tho I still think something needs to be done about this system.
And in conclusion, if you're reading this thinking whether you should get the game or not, I do think it's worth the money. Just keep in mind that you'll have to play weekly to get to the cool part of the gun modifications faster.

Old review that I wrote when Season 4 released (I think, i forgor tbh) below:

I only recommend getting this game for modding, as they actually make the game good.
Think of interesting overclock idea, maybe like a grenade launcher that shoots smoke grenades that give enemies in radius a debuff at the cost of not having any splash damage. Now think of a boring overclock, like less damage but more ammo. The most boring one is the one that actually makes it into the game.
Seasons don't change gameplay in any way and it's mostly just a event, new coat of paint in the lobby, new cosmetic slop drop and a comically low effort dlc.
Basically, devs make the most blandest decisions possible (kinda like Mojang lol) and don't really experiment with gameplay ideas. Bring the GSG boys from 2019 back - the ones that made silly balance and game design decisions BUT AT LEAST they were trying new things, not making the same thing over and over but slightly different.
