Was already pretty excited about this game releasing since I first heard of it and then got to try it out during the Autumn Games Festival. Now that it's out and I've spent a bit of time with it, I can confidently say that Pixel Puzzle Makeout League has has far exceeded all my expectations for it.

The writing balances between goofy and absurd scenarios, gags and quips with moments of genuine emotional sincerity as you progress through the game from date to date with each character. There are lots of sweet, cute interactions and lots of silly puns and jokes, both of which are crafted with equal amount of care. Going in I wasn't sure I wanted to play through all of the routes but after seeing a few of them to completion I can't wait to see what the others have in store narrative-wise.

There are also a number of unexpected sequences and audio-visual elements that have been extremely surprising. Like, "I can't believe what I'm witnessing right now" kind of surprising, which also makes me want to see what other neat things the game has nestled in the other routes.

The puzzles themselves have been a joy to play. It just feels incredibly nice to just fill in squares in this game that it makes jumping from puzzle to puzzle a ton of fun. The flexibility of the assist options in the game allow you to make the puzzle playing experience as guided or as hands off as you want them to be. Play with penalties if you want a bit of tension or turn 'em off completely for a relaxing and stress-free time.

If you're skeptical of the premise, are at all curious about nonograms or find yourself in need of some pixel puzzles then give the demo a shot! If it piques your interest, even in the smallest way imaginable, then know that you can dive head first into this game and get to experience something truly special firsthand!
