70 / 100

Faithful modernisation capturing that original Arkanoid formula. Tight play zones with a balance of forgivable to challenging levels. The way the bat responds to mouse movement horizontally & when colliding with the ball is super smooth & responsive. Where it hits the fundamentals though, it misses a bit on execution. New Eternal Battle mode is great fun, but it’s the only online mode! It gets old fast & limits replayability. If there were alt 'party' modes, more levels/sets/rules, coop, other bosses, tournaments or weekly challenges; this could have been epic online. Still a lot of fun, but your mileage may vary.

✔️ Good mix of forgivable to challenging arcade levels across all four game modes.
✔️ Smooth & precise bat controls, predictable rebound physics, gives a satisfying 'thud' on ball collision.
✔️ Happy to see a decent Retro version of the original included.
✔️ Power-up effects, sound effects, animations are all high quality.
✔️ Unlimited continues in Neo/Retro modes let’s all skill levels experience the entire game & defeat DOH.
✔️ Enjoyed the immersive electronic soundtrack. Got a bit of that Tron vibe!

❌ Low active users online; compounded by only one multiplayer mode supporting online/cross-play. Needs much more variety to improve replayability.
❌ Message popups over play zone are far too large, excessively hinders the play area visibility. Strong screen shake and other FXs can negatively impact and cannot be turned off.
❌ No difficulty slider. Basic AI opponents are not adaptive - easily beaten substitutes.
❌ Retro mode is great, but you cannot disable the bezel/CRT filters that distort the screen.
❌ Can't click actual menu icons/text. UX is designed for controllers & not ideal for mouse navigation.
❌ Seems to have issues for me with Windows 10 scaling/high res, resizes my desktop/windows/browsers in fullscreen. Higher resolution support would be welcome (3840x1600?).
