Street Fighter 4 was the first fighting game I ever enjoyed. I've played others, but the focus on spacial awreness and control over combos, combined with the limited number of characters on screen (vs a game like Smash Borthers or Marvel vs Capcom), allowed me room to learn the game just by playing alone or online.

Pros:
+Solid combat systems with good balance
+The online (it's not Mortal Kombat)
+One of the easier fighting game franchises
+Multitude of characters

Cons:
-Unblockable overheads
-A few particuarly unbalanced characters
-The online (it's not Skullgirls or SF5)
-Lack of real tutorial or the single-player extras of some other fighting games

This wil be a difficult game for new players. By now all the SF4 exploits are known, and almost everyone knows at least one combo.

This is a game I've spent 1100 hrs of my life on. No other game I own has topped 500 hrs of my time. I believe SF5 will prove a better experience overall, but for fighting game fans and anyone curious about the genre USF4 is as good a place to begin as any.
