The original FF6 for SNES is one of my favorite games of all time, and the pixel remaster is decent. That said, there are a few missed opportunities and weird bugs that hold this version back from being the new definitive version of the game.

Nothing game breaking for the most part - although I have soft-locked myself in combat a handful of times due to an interface bug that causes character actions to break sequence and hang up searching for an animation that doesn't exist.

The new OST is somewhat underwhelming in my opinion. Some tracks, like Narche's theme or the end credits sound fantastic. Whereas the final battle with Kefka or 'Searching for Friends' both kind of fail to deliver for me and made me miss the chip tunes.

The updated features like the bestiary are okay; but having to use them on the main menu ruins any kind of in-game usefulness they may have. Speaking of interface, there are a couple areas that the devs sort of whiffed IMO. Menus are no longer customizable, the font choice is awful and the equipment details view is honestly way better on the SNES version due to the complete lack of useful information in this version.

Lack of expanded content from the GBA version was disappointing but not expected - this has been the treatment with all the other pixel remasters.

It may sound like I'm being rough on this version, and maybe I am. Again, this was another opportunity to create a definitive version of FF6 and the devs kind of missed the mark IMO. Is this version BAD? No, it's perfectly serviceable. For the price point, it's pretty good. Though, I can't help but be kind of excited to see the ways that the modding community inevitably spruces this one up.
