a fine enough game. it does use the "idea" of metal slug (balls to the walls all the time) in a tactics format somewhat decently well. however with that said it goes against the "usuals" of the tactics format, meaning playing defensively. if you play defensively in this game, you die. a lot! a whole lot of dying.

the biggest oddity of the offense-focused gameplay is that you kind of need to move your units *then* attack, as opposed to the tradtional tactics gameplay of playing very defensively long term. this game needs you to move your units for combos, as aggressively as possible, then get the combo offs, and reap the rewards which are usually significant damage mitigation and adrenaline for special moves.

it's a little weird and somewhat demanding, i don't think i'll ever go for the true ending, but i think it's at least interesting, even if most people will bemoan not getting a new, actual metal slug title, especially considering the debacles of the IPs after they stopped making traditional metal slug games. for a lot of fans, the art style (even if good) in this game will probably not please them as it kind of goes against the intentional design of the older games.

price is a bit of a sticking point, you can tell effort went into this, but at that price point especially in the vast market of roguelikes where you have a lot of competition, i can imagine it will turn a lot of people off. still think it could be worth it for people on sale, at the very least

i could go on for like 10 paragraphs singing this game's praise but instead i'll list the only downside : there isn't more of it. probably one of the better racing games made in modern times. controls insanely well, every mistake feels personal because it *is* my fault.

you are missing out if you aren't at least thinking about playing it

the game is fine. the gameplay is fine. but i'm going to give it the big ole thumbs down because there's probably another million games you should be playing over this one.

tower base defense rts mix idk how to describe this game, definitely one of the games from that era of indies i think aged the best. campaign is relatively short, there's an extra dlc if you want more, and the game isn't too expensive. not a bad value for your money for what it's worth, but could use a couple quality of life things like hotkeying items.

a decent way to kill an afternoon, but most people would probably rather play the sequel

no real need to sugar coat it : evil empire did some work for dead cells dlc. it shows here. i don't think it's a bad thing, because they clearly learned a thing or two, since rogue prince of persia blends in some pretty solid platforming and great controls to an action roguelike.

it definitely pulls a bit ahead because of that fact - a lot of 2d plaforming roguelikes merely have it as a backdrop and do not really put much thought in the design. not the case here, lots of consideration went into that, especially since your moveset and the platforming can play into combat a lot.

the only really sticking point is the price point : a steep 30 USD. for what's on offer, it's relatively fair - the game offers quality both in terms of visuals and gameplay. the problem is that it faces competition for lower-priced offerings in the same genre, of which the players might not really care about what this game does well or better than the rest. i still think it's worth your consideration, but at the same time i would understand preferring to invest your money (and subsequently time) on other games in the genre.

erenshor is at its core an immersive sim. it does wear a MMORPG skin, but it does share a lot more with some "open world you can truly do anything" games along the lines of Gedonia because of its single player nature.

for what it's worth (at the time of writing this), i do think the game is solid. most of the issues i have to pick with is that the game makes my eyes hurt. and i don't mean because of the visuals - if anything the game SHOULD keep those in its full release - but because the UI does not scale super well. lots of small bars and numbers and absolutely no way to tweak it to make it more readable. hopefully as the game progresses, some of these issues will be ironed out.

as for the gameplay : you pick a class, you invite players, and you do stuff! mostly grinding and questing. as i said, the game wears a MMORPG skin, so you will be playing something closer to an early 2000s game than more modern games where you do a dungeon, get 6 levels, get every gear upgrade you need and move on to the next dungeon. this will displease some people, but that's what not what the game aims for. the only thing it shares with more recent MMOs is that you are effectively playing solo. class gameplay isn't "amazing" but each class has an outline of what it does and it does it just fine.

for a single dev project, this is really cool. it will not please everyone. it does not need to. there's a clear idea of design on display that will appeal to a bit more of a niche audience (lack of minimap and direction, a bit more focused on old-school quest design amongst others) but i do think this is a solid game to keep your eyes on.

i guess the biggest piece of advice is to try the demo : if you see interests you, get the full game. if it turns you off, turn around and never look back!

my advice for this game would be to download the demo, and see if you like it. if you do, get the game. if you don't, i absolutely do not recommend it.

for what it's worth i think anode heart is a pretty decent game... that i am personally unlikely to revisit after my handful of hours playing it.

i think the game does combat and music really really well. music is absolutely top notch for the setting the game is trying to lay down. the combat tries (and i think succeed though to be fair i havent played much of the game!) at being rather innovative with its resource and move systems. saw some cool stuff from what i played!

the problem is that i didn't really feel like i was playing much of a monster *tamer*. the raising is interesting (taking obvious cues for digimon, minus the actually caring for the pet from the early World games) but other than recruiting, it is pretty stock jrpg on that front (although to make up for that, the actual pet customization is through the roof). however, this leads me to another problem : i have so so so so many other jrpgs i would rather play over this one.

the game is good. the ideas are there. the combat is great. but to me it is kind of lost in a sea of games i would rather play. i said i am unlikely to ever visit this game again, but maybe at the end of my long journey & backlog clearing i will find a place and time to revisit it. maybe if it lives in my head, i could convince myself to play it again sooner than later.

my verdict is : if you can spare a solid 30 to 50 hours and aren't pressed by other games, this is most likely worth your time, providing the demo didn't turn you away.
