Update: My friend and I have completed our third run of the game now, netting us the true ending. The game is absolutely worth the multiple playthroughs. More on that at the end.

This game was an absolute blast with my best friend. We went in blind, only knowing that it was a co-op story experience. This is the kind of game the two of us will remember forever.

The characters really resonated with us and the story was moving. The gameplay was a fun mix of puzzle platforming (made me think of a two-player version of Limbo). And without spoilers, the way the game is presented to the two players throughout encourages communication and teamwork in such a special way.

I don't know, I don't really write reviews, but the fact that we couldn't stop talking about the game when we were done and are already excited for another playthrough just says a lot to me. Hazelight games like A Way Out, It Takes Two, and Brothers have always felt like the gold standard of co-op games for us and are always some of our favorites to play, and Bokura now sits right up there with them.

So in regards to my little update note at the top, the game is definitely worth revisiting with the same friend you played it with initially in my opinion. You can each get a new experience the second time by playing the game as the opposite character, which was a lot of fun for my friend and I to see what the other did on the first playthrough and experience the other side of the puzzles. You also get the opportunity to make the opposite choices, and then the ending is expanded upon in a significant way. From here you can start a third playthrough with the same friend and get a short kind of epilogue to the story, which was a fun treat.

If you have questions about the story, there is a lot to analyze and think about and there are some great discussions in the community where I got some answers to my questions about things! I really enjoyed the story and the lore here and picking apart the characters and what was going on.
