Minesweeper with a fantasy skin and a turn-based combat mini game

Pardon me but everybody knows Minesweeper. This is a minesweeper game with a slight twist.

First, you pick a character: knight, wizard, etc. Then, instead of mines, when you click on a "mine", a monster appears to fight you. Both of you have a set amount of hit points and an attack. You take turns hitting each other. If you kill the monster, you can continue the game, otherwise it's game over and you start from the beginning, level 1.

Each subsequent level is a bit more difficult (i.e. more mines) but otherwise it's standard minesweeper stuff. The character also levels up (more HP or better attack) or gains some one-use items (potions to heal or poison for a strong attack).

There's also classic game without the minigame, with instant game over on clicking a monster.

Standard settings

You can separately adjust sound and music volume. There's fullscreen/windowed key and some UI scaling options.

Controls are standard for minesweeper games (left-click for uncover a tile, right-click to mark as mine, left-click a clear tile to uncover all unmarked tiles) but unadjustable. There's also gamepad and keyboard controls.

Quite basic

Regardless of the little minigame combat, it's very standard minesweeper. It doesn't even have guaranteed solutions, so you might lose the classic game due to bad RNG.

Achievements took me (proficient in minesweeper-style games) a little over an hour to play through. There's an achievement to beat 20 levels with all "characters", including classic game.

Aside from achievements, there's little to offer here. For Minesweeper or similar games, you're better off playing the original, or you could check out Hexcells or its sequels for an interesting alternative.

I am sorry you didn't enjoy the game, but I really appreciate that you purchased the game and gave it a fair chance. Thank you for that and for leaving a very thorough and detailed review of the game.

I am currently working on a second game and although I'm not yet sure if I will revisit Battle Sweeper, my next game will be more substantial. I've learned from my experience with Battle Sweeper that something more is needed.

Thank you for the response, AlpaSun Games. I wouldn't say I didn't enjoy the game, but I feel it could have used something, like you say, more substantial to it. To its benefit, I didn't encounter any bugs, aside from the RNG grievance I mentioned, which is more like a feature and actually works fine when outside the classic game mode. The idea behind the game itself (refining and spicing up the Minesweeper formula) certainly has good merit to it, which I couldn't bolster enough!

I wish you good luck and inspiration on your future projects!
