The Resident Evil 4 Remake is a stunning reimagining of Capcom’s iconic 2005 title. It takes everything that made the original great, refines it with modern technology, and enhances the gameplay while staying true to its roots. Capcom once again proves why it’s a master of remakes, delivering an experience that honors the legacy of the original while creating something fresh for both new and returning players.

Pros:
Visual Excellence
The graphics are breathtakingly beautiful. I often found myself pausing just to admire the intricate details of the environments. From atmospheric lighting to richly textured backdrops, the game creates a world so immersive that it demands players to stop and take it all in. My first playthrough was filled with countless screenshot-worthy moments.

Engaging Sidequests
The addition of sidequests is a brilliant touch. They’re quick, rewarding, and avoid the tedium of unnecessary backtracking. These quests feel like a natural extension of the main story, adding layers of depth without disrupting the pacing.

No More Quick-Time Events
The removal of quick-time events (QTEs) is a welcome change. While they may have been a product of their time, QTEs often detract from immersion. However, I do miss the specific QTE where Leon fights to swim back to his boat after falling into the water—it was a memorable moment in the original.

Revolutionized Knife Gameplay
Capcom has completely overhauled knife mechanics, making them an integral part of the experience. From parries and perfect-parries to stealth kills and durability management, knives are no longer a backup tool but a core combat element. This design choice shines, especially on higher difficulties, where strategic use of knives becomes essential.

Shooting Range Nostalgia
The shooting range is back and just as fun as ever. It’s not just a nostalgia trip; it offers meaningful rewards like weapon attachments that significantly impact gameplay. While achieving top scores can be challenging, especially with a controller, the shooting range is a love letter to fans of the original.

Masterful Audio Design
The sound design is phenomenal. From ambient noises that guide exploration to the satisfying punch of gunfire, every sound effect feels deliberate and impactful. Directional audio, in particular, enhances immersion, making every environment feel alive and dangerous.

Animation and Combat Fluidity
The combat animations are rich and detailed. Whether it’s enemies losing limbs, heads, or being cleaved in half, every encounter feels dynamic. The fluidity of the animations ensures that fights remain fun and engaging from start to finish.

Polished User Interface
The UI strikes a perfect balance between modern design and functionality. It’s clean, informative, and doesn’t overwhelm the player. Features like auto-sorting inventory items add convenience without breaking immersion.

Improved Storytelling and Character Development
The remake offers more screentime for key characters, coupled with an enhanced narrative that adds emotional weight to the story. Without spoiling anything, the improvements elevate the overall experience, making it more engaging and impactful.

Classic Humor Intact
Leon’s iconic one-liners and the series’ signature humor are present but not overdone. It strikes a perfect balance, ensuring moments of levity without undermining the game’s tension.

Cons:
Underwhelming AI for Dogs
The AI for enemy dogs is disappointing compared to the smarter, more aggressive villagers. This missed opportunity reduces the challenge and intensity that dogs could have brought to certain encounters.

Missing a Boss Fight
One notable boss from the original is absent. While it doesn’t ruin the overall experience, it feels like a missed opportunity to reimagine and improve upon a fan-favorite fight.

Still a Remake
Despite its excellence, the game remains a remake. While it modernizes a classic, it can’t replicate the groundbreaking impact the original had upon its release.

Final Thoughts:
When Resident Evil 4 first launched in 2005, it was revolutionary, redefining the action-horror genre. The remake doesn’t have the same seismic impact but is undoubtedly the superior experience in today’s gaming landscape.

Capcom has crafted a masterpiece that respects the original while embracing modern advancements. It’s not perfect, but it comes remarkably close. Whether you’re a returning fan or a newcomer, this is an adventure worth experiencing.

Score: 96% – A phenomenal remake that honors its legacy while standing tall in its own right.

The original is better than the remake, but they did a good job on modernizing it. It's definitely a LOT more challenging than the 2005 version as well.

Saying the dogs are the same in this as in the OG is just flat out wrong. They are much more of a problem in the remake. I never got killed by dogs in the OG.
