This DLC is a huge improvement to the game. A game that was already great. It is a must buy for fans, and I would say that a new player should get this and have the dlc active on day one of playing.

It adds a ton of content in the form of new maps, monsters and some classes, but the real power of this DLC is how it shakes up the meta. Massive changes and small tweaks have not so much increased the difficulty, but rather changed the enter strategic approach to the game.

One of the big issues people had with the base game was that you played a lot of missions and they started to feel kinda same-ish. A big contributor to this was that most players tended to max level a single squad and then run it for the entire game. Basically playing the same 4 guys. This new DLC gives texture to the entire game by making this playstyle extremely hard to pull off. The way this is done is to numerous to go into but even something simple like how fast they heal, now means the player needs to have 2 or 3 complete teams ready to run at a given time. This means you have 2 or 3 teams and some back up units to fill wounded members of those teams. With all these knights each team can have vastly different play styles (assuming you made different builds). This makes the game feel so much better. I am now commanding an entire platoon of Knights... not just four dudes.

The other two massive changes come in the form of a proper respecing system. So you can now recruit near max level knights and set them up as you like. Respecing was possible behind a thematic system in the base game, but few people ever used it as it was a complicated process. This change alone of adding a simple "repec for rec" button makes the DLC worth buying. That is of course, if respecing was not part of the FREE update to the base game that came with the DLC.

Another great addition is the "2nd Ship". Which after you acquire allows you to send knights out on auto resolve missions while you personally handle the harder ones. This fits into the new normal of being a platoon of knights rather than just 4 guys. You can level up knights automatically in the back ground and this gives you a steady stream of knights to call into action as your guys recover from the missions you run personally.

Also there is two new classes that have been very kindly split into their own "section" of the game. This allows the devs to release all these awesome updates to everyone, regardless of if they buy the DLC or not. So the way it works is that there is a new "dlc only" mission type where you can run the Dreadnought and Tech-Marine. Some players dislike that there is this restriction on the new classes, but I think this is a genius move to balance the ridiculous power of these units as well as allowing a pubic free patch of most of the best features of the DLC to be available to everyone who has the base game.

Still what we have here is a DLC that dose everything I want in a DLC. It is not just about adding more stuff into the game. It is not about "more". This DLC has vastly improved upon the game and makes it feel fresh and interesting to older players. It has made it more challenging. It has removed that stale feeling after so many hours playing by making a new meta requiring new strategic and tactical thinking, while at the same time making many of the old tactics nonviable.

This is basically the game now in my eyes, and it should be an auto buy for any new players and fans of the base game alike.

Can't wait to see what they add next!

Minor correction: respeccing was part of the free update. So it can't make the DLC "worth buying" because it's not in the DLC.
