What you might want to know, if you played Montezuma's Revenge in the past:
This is not an emulation of a certain system's version but a new PC port by the developer of the original Atari 800 game featuring its original character Pedro (not the Indiana Jones-like Panama Joe). Played in Retro Mode this is a perfect port, faithful to the original in gameplay (don't fall too deep!), visuals (bright and beautiful pixels) and sound (almost). Furthermore: widescreen support, an autosave function (also the possibility to restart your game at any level you reached) and online leaderboards.

What you might want to know, if you never played Montezuma's Revenge:
It is a platformer classic from 1983, which was ported to every more or less popular 8-bit system of the time. When looking at some screenshots one might think that this must have similar gameplay to something like Mega Man, but you couldn't be more wrong. While even the first Mega Man from 1987 still plays pretty intuitive for today's platformer standards, Montezuma's Revenge absolutely does not. So you've been warned :) But why is it like that? It still follows the rules and mechanics of some of the very first platformers like Donkey Kong (1981). One of the nowadays most counter-intuitive things of those games is that you get killed by just falling down, not into a pit but just onto another platform, which normally doesn't hurt you. Every fall which is deeper than your own height kills you. Another thing is that jumps have a fixed length that cannot be influenced in mid-air. You also have to learn that you can't jump onto ladders (Mega Man can), but onto ropes. So if you want to experience what the platformer genre used to be before the revolutionary Super Mario Bros. (1983), Montezuma's Revenge is a good example and also very enjoyable, if you can deal with its retroness.

Regarding the Modern Mode:
Avoid it. I have nothing against a good reskin, but this one is rather ugly, especially Pedro, who looks totally generic and dead. It just takes the charme from the game. And I doubt that this is in any way more attractive for a younger audience. The remake of Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap is a good example how to do a reskin right. Another thing is that the Modern Mode has some scrolling instead of the normal screen by screen transition. Sometimes this is helpful, most of the time it is confusing. It also causes some screen tearing for me.

Wishes and suggestions to the dev:
- Go fully retro
- Some jingles are too modern for the Retro Mode. Maybe you could replace them.
- Exchange the modern title screen and the mobile focused trailer
- Add this beautiful intro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRoq5d_nH_A
