Early Access Review
The game is a bit grindy and the controls are fiddly. Sure, the exploration might be neat at some point but when the game expects you to keep coming back to your base on a regular basis to water and harvest your crops over and over you don't stray too far from it. So yeah, not for me...

This isn't Stardew, but it's still enjoyable. It feels like a mobile game - you can do everything with just your mouse and a lot of interactions are sweeping your cursor over the screen to gather stuff. You spend a lot of time gathering resoruces that respawn every few minutes, and so far it seems the game has more focus on slowly fixing up your farm and the surrounding village with those resources. It's neat if not groundbreaking.

In comparison to a few other mechanic simulator games I've played, this one is pretty jank. I got frustrated trying to make the game let me put all the tank parts in, highlighting parts I've already put in and not the ones I still needed to deal with. Even the tutorial sometimes has vague wording that doesn't explain everything to you and you have to guess what you're doing...

A very solid and neatly paced idle game. Could use some earlier QoL unlocks and you will definitely need some guides to solve some challenges, but it's pretty nice overall.

If you liked Surviving Mars, this is that again, with some minor tweaks, balances and a bit of new content. It's very whelming so far...

Dispatch is a great successor to the good legacy of Telltale Games's games. It's out there with the likes of the Walking Dead and Wolf Among Us.

It's nice seeing a game about superheroes that treats its subject matter with respect rather than cynicism or just making fun of it. Its more like Invincible if it was less gore-y, and less of cynical and juvenile The Boys.

That being said, it's not a perfect game. Some choices do feel very game-y and forced and some drama around Invisigal is a stretch.

An example that annoyed me the most was picking which hero to sack from the team on like, day 2 of your job. The day before you were congratulated for lasting so long with the team (everyone else quit before end of day 1 apparently) and you were planning on how you need to handle the team as a villain team and not a superhero team. Solid idea, but it never gets brought up again. Instead you have to ruin the trust of your team by kicking someone off based on their performance. Which, if you read Freakonomics, is a pretty awful metric to go by...

Despite that and similar situations, I still recommend it. It has the heart in the right place and a lot of the dialogue is good. It understands the soul of "true heroes" where it doesn't matter that you don't have any powers or a mecha suit, you will stand up to someone robbing a store armed with nothing more than a broken arm because that's what heroes do.

Boring. This game is quite boring.

While it has some very satisfying sounds and the screen fills with nice enough effects on higher levels, the progression doesn't feel that rewarding. Early on you will be scraping by getting some resources, later on you will be grinding multiple runs to just upgrade anything.

More frustratingly, the game doesn't apply its bonuses retroactively to the mining XP you've already gathered, so if you progressed too far that tree before getting some upgrades you will face a slow grind to get the bang for your buck. Similarly, there are some upgrades that help you discover artefacts, but since there is a finite number of these they feel like a waste of a rare upgrade slot unless they get refunded later on...

So yeah, I wouldn't recommend the game. Get something like Gnorp Apologue instead.

While a neat busy work game, its novelty does wear a little thin after 10 hours of doing roughly the same stuff. By the time you hit Tier 3 machines it's a bit too fiddly to coordinate which contracts to pick based on how many raw materials you have to produce the T3 items. Previous tiers were much easier since you were only ever creating one kind of item and you could just do it in bulk...

Proverbs is a neat long-form minesweeper-esque puzzle game where you need to find the pattern of light and dark blocks to fill a given area, coupled with some nice pixel art artwork for your troubles.

It takes about 25 hours to beat fully, and by the end of it you will be seeing patterns of how various tiles arrange themselves.

A very neat game for listening to a podcast!
