I'm recommending What Remains of Edith Finch despite not really enjoying it myself. The story's just not of a kind I'm interested in: I struggled a great deal to give a single damn about any of the Finches (largely because each Finch narrative is no longer than a few minutes), and that taken together as a family doesn't really add anything to the experience for me.

However, it's a style of story I recognise that I don't like as a genre from my experience with literature, and story aside, What Remains of Edith Finch is incredibly well designed as a walking sim game. The game world is beautiful (my one gripe is that if books are given titles, I strongly dislike a pool of about 30 or so titles being repeated over and over - I saw book titles early and had hoped to gain the enjoyment I do from going to someone new's house and making a beeline to their bookshelves to see what I can learn about them from that); the pacing is exquisite; and gameplay-wise it should be taken as a masterclass in signposting. I never felt confused about where I needed to go, and paths that were probably previously closed to me opened up without me noticing.

I won't give it a score rating because of my own personal lack of enjoyment, but if slightly spooky stories about a family's history appeals to you, absolutely go for it.
