This game is the ultimate filter. Even if it isn't perfect, there is a lot to get from it.

Sucks when you get hit with the network errors though...

really funny, I recommend ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around with a friend, especially with workshop mods. This is what I wished Flash Stick games were like in the 2010s

The first game that truly looks and feels like it came out in the 2020s. Too bad we don't have the hardware to run it just yet.

It is a cult classic, but it is definitely a very janky game.

Considering how much of the motion controls were replaced in this port, which were intended for a Nunchuk and Wiimote, I can only imagine all of the physical activity that it would take to beat this game back in the day, especially with the side objectives in mind, needed to repeatedly continue funding the next amount required to proceed through the story.

With that in mind, I am sure that playing it on a device that it was not originally designed for kind of ruins part of its appeal, and a lot of its intent behind its design is lost, but it remains enjoyable as an action game nonetheless.

I played through the game on Mild using Cheat Engine, because I didn't have the patience to be drip fed the game's actual missions and bosses in-between chores and side jobs, and so I gave myself infinite money to equip myself with all the drip and gear I wanted.

The highlights of this game definitely lie in its visuals and audio, specifically its user interface, references, voice acting, cutscenes, but also bosses just as well.

The levels themselves are somewhat lacklustre, with some quite heavy asset reuse, and sometimes entire levels or rooms reused, but at the very least the developers tried to keep things at least a little interesting throughout the game, and they never overstay their welcome for too long. Some little things here and there will go on a tangent you didn't expect, and it makes you wonder what will come your way next.

The enemies themselves feel a little like damage sponges, especially certain bosses, but it's not *too* egregious. It's worth noting I most likely didn't pick up all the upgrades I had available to me, notably at the gym, which might be why I struggled so much.

Speaking of upgrades, I wish the game put more attention on the purpose of the Dragon Balls you have to collect, as they unlock significant upgrades to your moveset whenever you collect 7 of them, which I wish I knew before deciding to bum rush the story. Otherwise, they seemed like just another type of collectable.

As for another thing that I wish was communicated better, is how bosses *will* cheat and give you a hard time to kill them, to the point that it can become a battle of attrition, with their elongated health bars.
They will make you stay on your toes constantly, and you seriously have to evaluate every tool available to you and how best to use them to be able to consistently pierce through their defences. For example, I only really learned the value of frequently using charged attacks at the very end of the game, against the penultimate boss.

With this newly acquired perspective on the game, it might be worth considering a playthrough on the "Bitter" difficulty, taking more time to thoroughly beat the game, at some point.

To conclude, when I look at this game and the following releases in its series, it's difficult to find the same charm in its successors, and I would need to hear some high praise to give them a shot. I hear their ports are about as rough as this one's (even though I really didn't run into any issues at all, actually), and that the trend of annoying bosses is here to stay.

Does what it says on the tin. Definitely not a miracle solution, because artifacts will be present if you don't really know how to setup the graphical settings just right, but in some situations it can be very handy for games that kneecap their own performance.
