Set design is a lot more interesting than you may think. In A Talking Cat!?!?! two of the characters live in a mansion which one states "they don't understand they decorated it like that". It's very clear due to the personality and status of the character that the decor is out of place, and it is not made better they the character actively pointing it out. Another film series uses the exact same set, in which it is used as a frat house. It fits much better under the context of being a frat house rather than the family home of a wealthy father and his son. Plenty of other indie films use this location, but whether it's fitting for the context or not is up to you. Have you ever seen 1807 Latigo Canyon Road being used as a set for a movie? I bet you have.
