Always love a simple game with surprising depth.

This game really stands on its own as occupying a unique and interesting niche. It's kind of this Tactical RPG/Soulslike/Open World Sandbox hybrid set in space. It's not going to be for everyone, but for some people, it's going to scratch an itch they didn't know they even had.

The game has been out for a long time now, but the devs have supported it with new content and updates far longer than anyone could have reasonably expected them to. It's one of those games where you actually kind of wish the devs were a bit more greedy and put out some DLC so you can throw money at them, but instead it's all free updates.

Do yourself a favor and give this a shot, highly recommended.

Fun open-world survival craft for a good price.

Good game

I ended up enjoying this a lot more than I thought I would. In particular, designing new ships, stations, and modules is satisfying and user-friendly, and even someone like me with no artistic skill of any kind can enjoy making cool ships that fit my needs. If that doesn't appeal to you though, you can actually skip all that and use default templates and fast construction if you prefer (more useful at lower difficulties, at higher difficulties that's not going to work).

One cool aspect of this game is the way it handles difficulty. Lots of games as you raise the difficult just end up giving the enemies bonuses, or modifying numbers. This game, on the other hand, fundamentally changes the game as you raise the difficulty, which means that as you play on higher difficulties, you're dealing with challenges that are not just greater, but different too.

For example, hard difficulty is the same as normal difficulty, but now the enemy will attack you. At the next level up, ultra hard, the way you collect resources changes significantly, it's a lot harder to get resources without proper infrastructure and ships. And at the next level after that (Master), the way you choose technologies changes, and you have to be a lot more strategic about which technologies you choose to research.

Anyway, give this a whirl if you like automation games, and the idea of designing ships and stations is appealing to you.
