Hard pass for now

The game just isn't it at the moment. I've played basically all of the asymmetrical horror games and Killer Klowns seems to be the worst of the bunch so far. It appears to have some of the worst balancing of all the asym horror games that I've played. It usually takes at least a couple of weeks for survivors/victims to start bullying the killers in these games, however, the Klowns are getting bullied right on the gate. The survivors can basically take the role of the killers and hunt down the Klowns in a group if they group up and choose to do so. I've experienced and seen the survivors hunting down the Klowns in groups on multiple different occasions. Once these asym games become killer bullying simulators they are always miserable to play for both sides and this game is presenting with that right out of the gate. Klown gameplay in general just isn’t very engaging if I am being honest. You are way too slow and don’t get nearly enough stamina. The humans however get endless amounts of items to reset their stamina meter so Klown gameplay basically becomes this endless cat-and-mouse game. Fights are basically decided on the victim’s terms. If you end up catching up to a human it’s because they allowed you to because they want to try and fight you.

Killer Klowns also doesn't allow you to choose which role you want to play. So if you want to be a killer only player that simply isn't in the cards.I am not a fan of this and this is a massive mistake in my opinion. People will just lobby dodge if they don't get the role they desire to play. I don't understand how this was overlooked as a problem. I've already seen multiple people leaving lobbies instantly and I presume it is because they didn't get the role they want. Just allow me to choose which role I want to play. It works just fine in both Dead by Daylight and Texas Chainsaw

Also, the game is just overpriced for the amount of polish it has. At least with Texas Chainsaw or Evil Dead, which were two asym horror games that also charged $40 right out the gate, they appeared to have high production value and polish to help warrant the cost of $40 to some degree. Killer Klowns on the other hand just looks very indy and cheap. There are endless amounts of wonky-looking and bugged animations. And if people managed to find Evil Dead and Texas Chainsaw that were much more polished out the gate overpriced, things certainly aren't going to bode well for Killer Klowns in that department.

The game isn't the worst thing in the world by any means. It just doesn't seem to be worth the asking price of $40. Plenty of balancing needs to be done before I consider playing this game again. This is one of those wait and see types of games. Wait for a sale and see if they improve the balance later down the road.

I'll be requesting a refund.

Retro Horror Goodness

Way better than it has any right being. I am huge fan of horror with the retro PS1 aesthetic and this might be the best one I've played yet. This is one of those it's so bad its good type of games. Think of classic horror movies like Evil Dead, it's that in game form. It has some of the worst trash tier dialogue and voice acting you'll ever hear. Rarely are games ever funny, yet this one managed to make me laugh out loud multiple times with its dumpster fire voice acting and dialogue. It's all completely intentional too obviously.

While the game mostly goes for cheesy B horror, it also shockingly had some creepy moments in it as well. At times it will slow and tone things down from the cheese and introduce some actually kind of scary moments. It was able to switch between the scares and cheese better than you would expect.

Not only is this game hilarious and scary at times but the gameplay was honestly surprisingly enjoyable. It's straight up classic survival horror in the vein of Resident Evil 1. Limited ammo, low health and more cheese than a little Little Caesars extra most bestest pizza when it comes to story. You can't move while aiming down sight just like in the classic survival horror games so you gotta make sure you position yourself properly while in any combat encounters which makes things extra tense at times because it's a one hit death in this game if you don't have a knife in your inventory to use as a counter to a zombie.

As a bonus it also comes with the critically acclaimed Booty Creek Cheek Freak for free. You can't tell me you can pass that up.

A substandard buggy disaster of a platformer

I am what you may call a 3D platformer connoisseur. I've played just about every 3D platformer on Steam and I am always on the look out for a new one to play. Which sadly new 3D platformers don't come often. With that being said, Scrat's Nutty Adventure happens to be one of the few 3D platformers on Steam that I hadn't played yet. It looked decent enough from the trailers and screenshots and I was also a big fan of the first two Ice Age movies as a kid so I thought what could go wrong here? Boy was I in for a treat. What I thought could have been a serviceable enough experience ended up being one of the buggiest messes I have ever played when it comes to platformers.

The Cockaroach Infestation (BUGS)
This game has so many game breaking bugs it is absolutely laughable. When simply doing a standard platforming mechanic like the jump smash bugs out nearly everytime you use it you know the game had absolutely no quality assurance testing. Almost everytime I used this move I got locked/stuck in the animation where the only way I could get out of it was either by dying or restating the level. So I just ended up not using the damn move for almost the whole game unless I absolutely had to. Just as bad if not worse is the the bug I randomly started getting near the end of the game that would literally hard lock my game everytime I picked up a collectible by getting me stuck in place without being able to move. The only way I found to get out of this was to exit to the main menu. I encountered this bug like 4 times in a row then it randomly stopped happening. There really is no rhyme or reason for when this game wants to work I guess. Also I can't not mention the phantom audio bug that will literally annoy you to death. There is a "special ability" you get towards the end of the game that makes a high pitched ringing noise when ever you use it. But heaven forbid the game actually works and you only hear it while actually only using the ability. You will hear this mind numbingly annoying ringing endlessly even long after you stop using the ability. Don't know what having Tinnitus is like? Well this game will let you know what it feels like. There are countless other bugs I can rant about here but I can't be here all day people.

The subpar gameplay
I'll be brief here as the bugs alone are reasons enough for you to avoid this game like your mother in law. The camera is horrible and I found myself constantly fighting it throughout my playthrough. Simple standard platforming moves like the double jump are locked away from you for large portions of the game as "special abilities" making the game feel awful. Combat is a button spam mess and is as deep as a kiddy pool. You can't use your whole moveset like the jump smash or your game will bug out.

Conclusion
I am not sure what I was expecting from a licensed game from a dead franchise but whatever I thought I would get wasn't half as bad as this. Even without all the bugs the game is sub par at best. With the bugs it is worse than pineapple on pizza. I really hope no parent mistakenly buys this disaster for their kid. As doing so is child abuse and may result in Child Protective Services taking away your kid.

Quite literally the most wholesome, cute, adorable, relaxing, charming little game you'll ever play. The game is so cute and wholesome it would even get an emo goth kid to crack a smile. Do yourself a favor and play Lil Gator Game.

Everything you could want out of a platformer!

Let me start off by saying that I am a huge platformer lover. I've played nearly every 3D platformer worth playing on steam and I must say Pumpkin Jack sits near the top of the mountain when it comes to quality platformers. It has everything you look for in a quality platformer!

Visuals/Art Direction

Don't get me started on this games visuals, setting and art style. It is as if this game was made specifically for me. There is absolute fantastic use of color throughout this game. No level looks the same and every level is fun and enjoyable to look at due to the use of the neonish colors like purples, pinks and blues. And as a massive fan of Halloween I can't get enough of the setting. The spooky cartoony setting makes me feel like a kid again watching my favorite cartoons Halloween special just days before the holiday I love so much. I can't get enough of it. It is the perfect game to play every October to get you into the Halloween spirit and I can certainly see that becoming a reality for me.

Gameplay

The gameplay is just about as good as it gets for platformers. A lot of platformers tend to get stale after awhile due to lack of variety in terms of gameplay but that isn't an issue with Pumpkin Jack. Every level tries to introduce a new gameplay mechanic or mini game or new weapon for combat encounters to mix things up and never make the next level boring. And it has great bosses! One of the most important things for a platformer is fun bosses, in my opinion. Each boss has distinct and interesting character design and everyone of them introduces a new gameplay style and way to take them down. They are some of the most fun bosses I have seen in a 3D platformer in a good while.

And one thing that can be annoying in 3D platformers is the collectibles. Developers sometimes either put too many of them in their game to collect or make them too hard to find making you have to use a guide. In Pumpkin Jack however, they are fun to search for not only due to the games great visuals but because they don't overdo it with the amount of collectibles in each level. There are only 21 collectibles per level and an audible crow caw will be heard anytime you grow close to one which makes it incredibly less stressful to find every collectible in each level if you are going for that 100 percent completion.

Soundtrack/Audio

The soundtrack is lovely and matches the setting and art style very well. Although there wasn't a particularly memorable track, it nails the SPOOKY Halloween vibes like it should.

Conclusion

Pumpkin Jack is one of the best 3D platformers I have played in LONG time. It has a great visual art style, good gameplay variety and a solid soundtrack to wrap everything in a perfect little bow. THIS is the platformer you have been looking for. Worth every penny I paid for it and I can see myself playing this every Halloween to get me into the Halloween spirit

It pains me to write this negative review but I have to.

Call of Duty 4 is one my favorite games of all time. It has an amazing campaign and quite possibly the best multiplayer period. It also is a phenominal PC port with many graphics options, great optimization, and even mod support. My issues are not with the game itself but with the games toxic multiplayer community/servers.

If you did not know, all of Call of Duty 4's multiplayer servers are run by the community. And it's on these community run servers where I am constantly harassed by both admins and players nearly everytime I play for simply being good at the game. It doesn't just stop at name calling and hackusations though, it often goes much further than that. This includes being permanetly banned from 5 of the most popular US servers, temporarly banned another 10-15 times from these same servers, and even DDoSd 2 twice. All of this stuff I just mentioned has happened to me for simply being a good player. Let me make this abundently clear too, I do not hack (I have no VAC bans on record). I have never hacked and never will. However, if you are even remotely good at CoD4 it's multiplayer community will sure think you hack and they will ban you from playing on their servers because of it.

I write this review to warn people of this games community and it's toxicity towards good first person shooter players. If you are even remotely good at shooters I strongly advise you to not purchase this game because the chances of you being banned by the admins of these community run multiplayer servers for "hacking" is very likely.

It really hurts that the games community is literally keeping me from playing a game that I absolutely adore. I honestly would love to continue to play this amazing game but I just can't take this abuse from the games community anymore. It isn't worth it.

*WARNING* This review contains spoilers

So back in the year 2013 Gone Home was getting an incredible amount of praise from various video game critics. Due to this I decided to give indie developer Fullbright's title a whirl. After having played through the game though, I found out how overhyped this game truly is. It didn't come close to what some of these critics were claiming it was. They acted as if it was something turely amazing and worthy of title game of the year. Let me tell you here first, It is by no means worthy of such a prestigious title like that. It's actually an insult to the gaming industry for it to even be considered for game of the year in my opinion.

The only thing you even do in this so-called "game" is walk throughout a house looking for clues/specific items that when interacted with will trigger voice recordings from Kaitlin's "missing" sister. When the recordings are triggered they will give you some small backstory on your sister and they will also give you a hint as to where you can find the next clue/item. This is what the entire game consists of and it became repetitious rather quickly. It got so repetitious to the point where the game became a chore to complete.

Now repetitious gameplay isn't Gone Homes only flaw, It also has a terribly uneventful conclsuion. Before I go on to talk about that though, let me give you a brief premise of the story first. You play as Kaitlin Greenbriar who returns home to find her parents house empty. Her mom, dad, and sister are all no where to be found. YOU and only YOU must find out what happened to her family.

Now that we're all caught up, let's talk about the games uneventful conclusion I spoke of. Obvious SPOILERS ahead. So it turns out Kaitlin's mom and dad are not actually missing but happen to be on a camping trip while she decides to return home. So it's just a case of she's at the wrong place, at the wrong time. Very captivating ending so far right? So if something so interesting is going on with Kaitlin's parents something equally as interesting must be happening to her adorable little sister as well right? Well, let's dive right into it. The reason Kaitlin's sister is no where to be found is because she decided to run away while her parents were on their camping trip due to her being in a homosexual relationship in which they didn't approve of. Yes, she ran away with her girlfriend and also decided to drop out of high school to live happily ever after in La La Land. How anyone can find this to be a good conclusion to a mytstery title is beyond me.This ending left me so unsatisfied. It is just so bland, boring, and anticlimactic. The ending did not pay off, plain and simple. I have watched episodes of Scooby Doo with more interesting endings than this for crying out loud.

I truely believe the ending to this game is the entire reason Gone Home got any recognition from the critics. It really has to be because this game surely does not have reviting gameplay. It got the recognition and universal praise simply because it tackled a controversial subject like homosexuality. The ending to Gone Home just me left exremely unsatisfied and nothing more. How so many critics thought the ending was "great" will alawys be a mystery to me. It just angers me that critics were most likely praising Gone Home just because it tackled a controversial subject all while they ignore the games biggest problem, repititious uneventful gameplay.

Now this game left me disappointed in many ways but what I am disappointed by the most though is that this game could have been truely great if it went in more interesting direction. Gone Home had a truely great atmosphere, it really did. There were creeks, faint creepy voices, and thunderstrkes that would all occur as you would walk throughout the house finding the clues. The first half of the game even hinted at the paranormal and seemed as if it were going to go in a completely different more interesting direction. However, instead of taking full advantage of the great atmopshere and making this a great mystery title Fullbright decided to go with an uninteresting teenage love story. It really saddens me.

So in conclusion I somewhat enjoyed the beginning of Gone Home due to its a great atmosphere but the games unintersting ending and its very repetitive gameplay left me throughly disappointed. So in humble opinion this game isn't worth buying by any means. It definitly isn't worth the $20 price tag that's for sure.

TL;DR: This game has very repetitious gameplay, has a very anticlimactic uninteresting ending, and is terribly overrated by critics. AVOID
