Early Access Review
If you're buying this game today, (acknowledging is in Early Access), based on my experience with Japanese, I cannot recommend it yet.
- Large majority of words are katakana-based words, (same or basically same pronunciation as English, e.g. 「バナナ」banana == banana). You get the gist.
- The game gives incorrect or slightly off translations for certain words.
- Whilst I think it is fine for the game to assume hiragana and maybe katakana knowledge, the game drops in kanji as well without showing you how to pronounce the kanji. The typical way to do this is called "furigana", which is where the kana is written above the kanji in smaller text.
- Every room (there are 11) lets you learn 5 words a day, but because so many are English, it's easy to learn. You can basically learn all of the words the game has to offer in about 10 days, playing for about an hour each day.
- Even after 100%'ing all the rooms, there's about ~100 words left to go, the only way to learn these is playing horrible mini-games on the overworld, such as a delivery game where you have to repeat and get the pronunciation of four words correct with only kanji being shown on screen, (again lacking furigana). To top it off, it is timed (100 secs), so if you want to write it down in a workbook, good luck. The colour game (to learn basic colours) is based on daily RNG -- I've still only learned two colours (green and gray).
- Sometimes no matter how good your pronunciation is, you cannot win. For example, the game teaches you the word "CD" at some point, which is literally spoken as "SHI - DEE", it'll never let you get it right.
- The game rewards the monkey part of your brain with a 'streak' system, (which always showed my max streak as 1 day), and on the same page showed 7 stars (never more than 7), however, once you learn all of the words in the rooms, it's impossible to maintain your streak, since the game does not register learning 5 new words a day anymore.

Some of the good points of the game:
- It does try and provide lessons in each room via a lesson console which tries to give some sentence examples and shows off Japanese particles, (wa, ga, no, desu, ka, etc.), however, they do not do a good job at explaining the structure, and how the structure of a sentence changes.
- It did get me off my ass in trying to learn a language that I should have done earlier through proper methods.

If you enjoy playing with hackers, being grabbed by 20 people and unable to move and falling over despite the slightest breeze applied to your bean, then this is the game for you.
