I'd give this game a lukewarm recommendation. The core moment-to-moment gameplay is fun, it's very stylized and the atmosphere feels great, it really nails the minimalist cyperpunk theme. It’s fun to play with my kids, and it’s a good game to play for a few minutes at a time.

That all said, there’s just not a lot of game here. The game can be boiled down to a few basic fights. It’s possible there is more beyond what I’ve seen, but so far, you hack a building, you kill a combination of enemies, you get experience, you level up. You hack a higher level, have the same fight with higher level versions of the enemy, and so on ad infinitum.

The enemies stay the same, their stats just increase, the weapons stay the same, their stats just increase. There’s no dungeon layout to explore, the game consists of essentially having one fight over and over again.

Devs say they drew inspiration from diablo, but diablo has many floors of dungeons to explore, the environment of the dungeon and the types of enemies you fight change as you progress in the game. I don’t really see that in Black Ice.

To be fair, if Black Ice is a one-trick pony, it’s at least a pretty good trick, and what little game there is is good. I just wish there was more game. Black Ice feels like a free demo for an awesome game I really want to play the full version of.

This is a dead game, it is no longer online. It has no business still being up for sale on steam.
