I never played Rivals of Aether, but despite that I really enjoyed Lovers of Aether. It's written in a way that fans will get the inside jokes, but also approachable for those that were just interesting in this little joke dating sim game. Taking place over a day, your goal is to get yourself a date to homecoming before the school day ends. You do this by talking to the various characters before and in between of classes and if it comes up, picking a choice they would probably favor to build up enough points. There are even some choices during class that can score you points with your love interest for that playthrough (though there are two characters that require a specific outcome during class). If you built up enough points, they'll say yes and go to homecoming with you! If not...well I guess you're skipping it this year.

Combined with an enjoyable writing style, a great art style and character designs, and being a free game, it's a no brainer recommending Lovers of Aether. Though, I do wish it had a skip read text option and we had an small epilogue instead of just a congratulations.

Also Absa is best girl. She even brings you chocolates 💜
