At this point, I don’t feel like I’m buying a game... it feels like I’m just buying the third season of an anime!
Yea, now I get it, why they call this the beach episode, even though there aren’t any waifus in swimsuits here. Well, technically there is one, but it’s just part of a silly substory, like usual in Yakuza games—but okay then.

Anyway, before you dive into this game, be aware that all Yakuza remasters have some optimization issues. If you want more details, check out my full review guide below. If you’re not interested, here’s my usual review.

If you’re like me and jumped into the Yakuza series because it was finally ported to PC, or started with Yakuza 0 like most people, you might not expect much from the remastered titles, especially Yakuza 3, 4, & 5. After finishing 0, Kiwami 1, & Kiwami 2, jumping into the remasters feels like an instant downgrade.

I don’t have an issue with that, though, because these are remasters, not remakes, so it makes sense. Since I’m more into the story than the tedious gameplay of Yakuza 3, I actually finished this game faster than any of the previous PC titles.

That said, the lack of QoL improvements in this game is noticeable, especially for substories like the 'Trouble Maker' ones—I believe they’re completely absent. Unlike in the past, we can search for all the substories in Yakuza 0 but in 3? yea good luck with that.

As for combat, it’s definitely downgraded. You don’t get the three or four combat styles like in the previous titles, so you should know what to expect from an older game that’s been remastered rather than remade. For me, that’s fine.

Welp, there you go, PlayStation 3 graphics. Well, I’m not really into graphics too much. even Wukong, which only sells graphics, didn’t win GOTY, so why bother with them? No wonder that game got defeated by Super Sony Brother Bot.

Anyway, Ryu looks bulkier and wider, like Wide Putin... not sure why. Also, Haruka looks so ugly, maybe because I jumped into the Yakuza remakes first. So yeah, you know what you’re getting. I also noticed Yakuza 3 uses a lot of daytime maps, unlike the previous titles that are always set at night. I mean, Kamurocho looks better at night; it has that feel.

And yeah, I noticed all those maps were crafted by hand instead of relying on lighting, which is probably why they could make this game for PlayStation 3. Imagine if Yakuza was made by Square Enix, it’d probably have the most broken PC optimization because all the lighting would be rendered instead of using whatever tricks Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio pulled off. Overall, the night maps still look gorgeous, but the day maps? They’re pretty hideous.

They have same kind of mini-game, but I don’t think it supports multiplayer. And yeah, this is like a remaster edition. people are playing it only because they’re attached to the story, so I don’t think I need to check that out.

If you see a user leaving a negative review for this game just because they're using a keyboard and mouse, block them, they can't even read.

Works fine with a D-input gamepad.

Main story takes around 16h to beat, 100h for completionists, and about 26h for all styles. For me, though, I finished in 22h, just walking around randomly. Sometimes, I focused on substories if I saw them, but when nothing showed on my map, I just kept progressing.

There’s no real impact in this game, but I’m not sure about the later titles. I’ll let you know once I finish them. Anyway, this is literally not about Yakuza; everything is falling apart. I mean, people are afraid of John Wick after he soloed many armies, but Kiryu? Come on. ‘Hey, I’m the new chairman of the Yakuza, and it seems people know this dude named after a dragon. I think I can defeat him.’ Bam, bam, bam. ‘Oh, how could you defeat me? I have money, I’ve lootboxed, this isn’t possible!’ Yeah, the villains in Yakuza feel rushed, but since I love the gameplay and story, I didn’t mind too much... well, not so much for this one. It’s literally the beach episode – a retired old man running his orphanage, just like he dreamed of. Overall, this beach episode needed more swimsuit waifus like many summer anime episodes.

And because im already attached to yakuza so yeah, tortured my self with this season.

I'm only playing this because I'm already attached to the story, but I wasn't expecting much from this version. Anyway, I remember waiting for the anniversary of Ryu ga Gotoku, hoping for Kiwami 3, and yet we got the Majima Pirate thing.
