The Syberia games by the late and great Benoît Sokal have always been first and foremost a reflection on European history and culture. In Syberia: The World Before, we follow two protagonists, Dana Roze and Kate Walker, as they react to and reflect on the darkest chapter in recent European history, the rise of fascism.
While the story is at its most emotional and intimate in the series, the gameplay is unfortunately lagging behind. Grand puzzles like in Syberia I and II are absent, but at least from a visual and technical standpoint The World Before is stunning. This is in stark contrast to the lackluster third installment of this series.
In the end, I recommend this game to everyone who likes adventure games in general and Syberia in particular. Even if you did not play Syberia 3, you can hop right in.
