Did you enjoy Castle Crashers, The Simpsons arcade game, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game, TMNT Turtles in Time, Final Fight, or Streets of Rage? Then good news! You'll certainly enjoy this.

Solid artstyle as I'm a fan of hard shading in the Mike Mignola aesthetic like in Darkest Dungeon with Absolum nailing it, excellent music with the menu and main theme track that crescendos and loops masterfully with it encapsulating the characters struggle in the world so well that me as an idiot guessed the track name and was pleasantly surprised that it was dubbed Resistance, voice acting for the vast majority of characters is great with a couple sounding inexperienced, the amount of combos and wombo combos when playing co-op is satisfying to unlock and dish out with interesting novel builds with throwables and mounts with a great amount of enemy variety and well designed bosses with phases, and the overworld map is beyond well made with many branching paths you can take which keeps things fresh while going through areas that are a beauty to look at and fun to wade through.

I'm excited to see what else maybe added to the game in the future, and hope the studios collaborate again in the future on another game. Well worth the price of entry.

Early Access Review
Keeping it Frank and Earnest, I love this game.

Phenomenal sound design that's coupled with its dark themed artstyle in broad linework, the music with its stellar synth screams Diablo II, and you will feel desperation whilst playing this game that's stacked against you. When you get critical hits and your party members become stalwart in resolve there's nothing more hype, especially in the pivotal moments that will happen. I could go on with various combos between your party members, but I'd digress.

My only hope is that when Darkest Dungeon is released it does well enough to the point of it being ported to mobile so that Red Hook Studios may prosper more for their next project. This game would be godlike on the go, I could see it on a 3DS XL, or whatever the next one could be

The gameplay, the main part of any game, was flaccid at best. Solid art design, but with lackluster voice acting, what seemed like a 30 second music loop (great music, but gets old fast like this), unpolished game mechanics, and novice level design had me exclaiming aloud how much of a disappointment it was. I wanted to finish the first chapter, but just couldn't.

Barely gets a 4/10 only because of enjoyable music and art design, but that alone is not able to carry this game

Just sonic roll for days shooting at meat sponges that leave no impact of hype feelings upon killing said enemy. There's not even an animation for your character when pushing things, a button in the controls that is purely for that, so you think they would implement some character interaction with a core gameplay mechanic that lets you progress in the level. He just runs awkwardly into it, and you can't pull, only push. No immersion, and lacks any spirit. Just a solid mehh
