This game, right here, is fantastic. Set around 15 years after the original film, it puts us in the shoes of Ellen Ripley's daughter, Amanda, seeking closure about her mother destiny's after she learns the Nostromo flight recorder was recovered.

This is practically my first experience with the Alien franchise, as I'll have to admit I've never seen an Alien film in its entirety, only parts of them (that's something I should fix ASAP); although I do know the plot of the first film. And I must say that if you're in the same situation as me, then this is a great opportunity to get into the franchise. The aesthethic is retro-futuristic; it seems they aimed to recapture the feeling of the original film, and they did a fantastic job; Sevastopol is an amazing space station, full of areas to explore, and to hide. As far as the soundtrack goes, it's excellent. It really sets the tone of tension during several moments.

As far as gameplay goes, this isn't a run and gun. And this isn't a "hide in a corner and wait until the enemy goes away/learn the movement patters" stealth game. No, this is a stealth game about movement, survival, and adaptation. This game will punish you if you stick to the same tactics; the Alien will learn, and so you must learn as well. It's not just about hiding in a corner, it's about outsmarting a much stronger and faster enemy. And even then, the Alien isn't the only threat; there are other people on the station, who will do anything to survive; and then there's the Working Joes, those unsettling androids, who might not look like much of a threat with their slow movement, but can really take you by surprise.

At times, it might seem there are huge difficulty spikes, but this is not true; it's part of the challenge. Sometimes you'll find yourself stuck in an area, getting spotted and dying time and time again, and then, when you go back again, you'll find it wasn't as difficult as you originally thought; that happened to me several times. It's all about paying attention to your surroundings, and making the best use of the tools you have available.

The story, as I mentioned in the first paragraph, is about Amanda looking to get some closure on her mother's fate. When going to the station that was holding the Nostromo flight recorder, things aren't as smooth as they should, and soon you're trapped in this huge station with an Alien on your back. I don't want to give any more details, as something that adds to the experience are the surprises you'll find aboard Sevastopol.

Well, I don't think there's much more to add. I could write a thousand more words, but I don't feel I would make this game any justice. It's just something that you need to experience by yourself.

I've watched the first two films already (well, only the second half of the second film), and the first one is a masterpiece.

As for your question, well... I wouldn't want to spoil the game for you, I'll only say you're in for a treat.

Amazing review. I am a huge ALIEN saga fan (not prometheus but the original story), I was wondering if this game was worth trying and now I cant wait to do it. I always wondered what would happen if it turned out Amanda wasnt actually dead or if she had known what had happened to her mother. I suggest you watch 1-4 of the saga soon if the game made you a fan of the creature and the situations. I've a question though, does the game show us that the company is the real villain here or does it just stick with the alien? ;)

Heh, it's been quite some time since I wrote this review. I've actually seem them both already. Well, kinda. I only caught the second half of Aliens on TV.

Anyway, the first Alien movie is great, I loved it, and it's easily become one of my favourites.

You HAVE to see Alien and Aliens (the second one). Ignore the rest, those two are brilliant movies. The first movie is in my top five favourite films and this game is definitely in my top 20 somewhere.

Wow, talk about experiencing Alien backwards!

What is this about not seeing the Alien movies? Stop what you are doing right now, get a copy of the first two movies, and watch them. Now. Don't worry about the other movies.
