Not as much content available as the mod, and at the moment, the mod is more fun. However, Standalone has taken some interesting steps in the vein of survival and personalization. Lots of different clothing items, the ability to change (currently only a few) items' appearances, item durability, a detailed character health/status system, weapon modding, and the ability to physically interact with other players, to name a few.

Vehicles are sorely missed, and I don't think there's been any real timeline as to when they'll be added in. Hunting and cooking are also not functional, and there are only a few guns. A shotgun, 4 or 5 rifles, and 5 or 6 handguns, I think.

Still, things like having to craft bandages, items you can store other items in, the necessity to have something to open food with, rotten food and nearly ruined loot do lend a sort of realism. It's still in alpha, so there is a long way to go. I wish they could develop it faster, but we really have no control.

At this moment, I would recommend DayZ Standalone if you've already played the mod, but the mod is currently more fun and has more features. However, Standalone does look and run a lot better, and server lag is much less of a problem, which is still a good thing.

I highly recommend this game. Potential for hundreds of hours of gameplay, and every update comes with at least 1 new feature. I've had a great time and it's not even finished yet.

I decided I'd leave this review here before I uninstalled. This is not fun. It really isn't. There is almost nothing to this game that makes it worth playing.
It's got a gun-rental system like Combat Arms, a really really old Free-To-Play game in which you could at least aim effectively. In this game you can't even do that. In Counter-Strike not having sights worked, here it just makes everything worse. You can buy guns permanently for real money, though I don't know why you'd make any investment in this game, monetary or time-wise.

Play Ghost Recon Online instead if you're looking for a good FTP shooter.
