I loved the narrative here, with all the characters interacting felt so genuinely insane! I was actually so heart broken at the end when I started realizing who all the bodies were...

Go into this game blind like I did! I didn't have money when this first came out so I didn't play it, but the premise looked so cool so I just had to wait and experience it blind and first hand! It was a little hard to get used to at first and one of the worst scares was not having a map...

The moral of the story is we shouldn't put AI into corpses, or corpses into the hole.

This game makes me sad.

It tries so many new things and just does nothing with them!
Special Infected types, some are like, new are threatening, and others just steal the L4D Special Infected pinning mechanic. BUT EVEN THAT is negated as there are multiple perks or items (one perk in fact being part of a character's basekit skills) that just allows you to break out of it pretty much for free.
The Gun play feels fine to me, in my opinion.
WHAT I'M NOT FINE WITH is deck building. IT WOULD BE SO COOL if they did MORE with it. There isn't really much you can do with it in game right now, you do what you'd do in any other video game where you mix and match perks, you find the ones that mesh together like puzzle pieces and that's that. You can't find new metas or try gimmicks because it's pretty much you're a tank, you're fast, you're a glass cannon, or you support. Nothing else.
Am I saying the mechanic isn't good? No, of course not, the game is fun in a group of friends but in public lobbies, it's even more dead than the actual zombies. And for what it's worth, a lot of the cards are interesting twists with upsides, downside, right sides and left sides. But the way they're all set out it's like they went "Let's make this one where you get extra ammo capacity... This one where you get extra ammo capacity at the cost of movement speed... and this one where the entire team gets extra ammo capacity!"
And this happens for EVERY, SINGLE, STAT. A card that gives you faster ADS speed at the cost of (GASP) taking +6% more damage!?!?!
And don't get me started with the Melee perks. The melee feels both incredibly lackluster and broken at the same time, with the perks just turning you into an offensive monster at the cost of... Lets see... Your ability to aim down sights! Ah yes, for a melee perk you get locked into close range unless you're the best hip-fire shot in the west. And the characters? They can only make melee more busted.
Two of the characters get health/stamina back for infected killed with melee. While the one that gives stamina ain't too great, the one who gets health back can easily kill an entire horde of the normal infected my holding m1 for like 10 seconds with a baseball bat.

I REALLY want to like this game. I don't hat it, but it just feels like this game took what L4D2 did and made it soulless. Is it a bad game? No. But it should not have been marketed as a spiritual successor to arguably one of the best zombie shooters ever. Play L4D2 if you want a zombie shooter, play Back 4 Blood if you want the Kroger Brand L4D2.
