tropico 3: 70 hours played
tropico 4: 210 hours played
tropico 5: 307 hours played

me: good thing it's impossible to screw up a tropico game!

Limbic: hold my rum & cigar!

as of now it's better to stick with tropico 5.
even 6 weeks after release and the looong closed beta before that this game still feels like an early access game.

basic features are not present or not working properly, edicts are buggy, multiplayer games can't be saved (!!) and the greatest thing of all:
your people get stuck in buildings all the time! stuck people don't work obviously so sooner or later your whole island grinds to a halt and your economy collapses.

for 23 hours i played this game thinking
"this just doesn't feel right"
and
"15 factories should be able to generate 10 000 $ per month, right?"
turns out nothing really works that well in this game.

i will update this review as soon as the issues are fixed.
until then i consider my 55€ for tropico 6 preorder down the sh#tter.

update

exactly 2 years after launch i decided to come back to tropico 6 and finish the job.
while many improvements were made i still feel let down by the whole package. it never really worked that well and the terrible launch certainly left me tilted.

tropico 6 felt just weird at launch and it still does today. it says tropico on the label but there is something else inside. something rotten.

a lot of buildings suggest complexity and opportunities when in fact that is not the case. only a few industries offer you a good income in the long run while the rest either doesn't earn enough to help you build your city or you even lose money every month when running with these industries. your path to success is clearly defined and if you don't go down that route you will suffer. a lot.

the archipelago concept doesn't work at all. usually most of the map consists of unusable terrain like ocean or mountains. instead of an awesome city you end up with 20 tiny and ugly islands crammed with buildings because they need to go somewhere. only very few maps offer enough space for you to actually freely build a proper & beautiful tropican city.

finishing all missions took 90 hours but i certainly didn't rush it at all.
and another 10 hours extra to get 100% achievements unlocked.
that's enough tropico 6 for me.
currently only 1.8% of all players have completed all missions in the game. you really don't need to say much more.

technically the game got patched up semi-decently but that's it. now they are busy milking the DLC cow like crazy.
no. just no. all in all still a solid thumbs down from me. tropico 6 was a disappointment at launch and still is today.
