CA really stepped it up with Warhammer II. They took everything great about the first game and added that to a bigger map with the best base game faction variety of all the three games. Beside Mortal Empires campaign, everything was pretty smooth at release and just a good experience overall. At this time it also felt like CA really valued community feedback and built this game based on it, since most big issues felt ironed out and the community was the most positive it has ever been at that time.

One problem I had with Warhammer 2 was the map design and the way they shrunk down and crammed everything together. By the end of Warhammer 2's life cycle, the map felt overcrowded and even landmasses that should have had large water in between them got constantly raided and attacked by neighbours that in the lore were quite far away from each other. This is a problem that still exists in Warhammer 3, but doesn't feel quite as bad as it did in Warhammer 2.

Another problem was the balance between good and evil in Warhammer 2, since the number of “good” and neutral factions heavily outnumbered evil factions. Neither of the evil factions really stood a chance and the map would often in late game just end up being all the super powerful “good” factions in war with each other fighting for more land.

With that said, this is an amazing strategy game and the best of the three games.
I hope Total War Warhammer 40k will have a similar start when it is ready.
