Roads to Power is hands down the biggest expansion the game has gotten so far, and honestly, I don’t think I could ever go back to how the game was before this. The sheer amount of new content and ways to play is a huge step up from previous expansions, and it really changes how I approach the game.

First off, this expansion does a lot for the Byzantine Empire, but the real highlight for me is the whole "unlanded traveler" playstyle. It's such a fresh way to play CK3. You start with nothing, no land, no titles, just a wandering soul, and you have so many paths you can take. You could stay unlanded, focusing on contracts, building up your camp, and just doing your own thing. Or, if you feel like it, you can try to snatch land for yourself, either through war or diplomacy, and become a vassal in someone’s empire, helping them conquer the world. And, of course, you can go full-on power-hungry and steal a throne to become the emperor yourself.
One of my favorite things to do as an unlanded character is to create my own religion. There’s just something about spreading your faith across the map, converting entire kingdoms, and then, once you’ve turned the strong part of the world into your own pay for forgiveness cult, you just snatch land and become the head of faith. It’s incredibly satisfying.

Since we are nearing the end of 2024, looking ahead, I really hope 2025 brings a bit of an overhaul to religion, and in the same expansion, it would be fitting to make The Papacy playable. I also hope that we will see more work being put into this new unlanded playstyle. Starting as an unlanded character is really fun, but going unlanded after having been an emperor is less than desirable. It would be really cool if the experience of going from landed to unlanded was different from just starting a new unlanded character, because right now, after having been a strong emperor from a strong family, going unlanded just feels like starting over again.

But yeah, overall, Roads to Power has added a ton of depth to CK3, and it's easily my favorite expansion so far. I imagine this expansion would pair well "Tours & Tournaments". I haven't tried that expansion yet, but I imagine being a traveling knight just fighting around the world and building a name for yourself that way, would be really cool.
