Middle-earth: Shadow of War - The Desolation of Mordor Story Expansion
[Overview]
The Desolation of Mordor takes place after Baranor departs from the main story. You play as him as he enters Lithlad and is nearly killed by a wyrm. He’s saved by Torvin who gives him new gear. Baranor then seeks out a local leader who happens to be his estranged older brother. Baranor is then tasked with helping him conquer the region of Lithlad.

[Positives]
- There’s some new mechanics. You get a grapple gun and a glider. Similar to Batman Arkham and Breath of the Wild.
- The gameplay is changed up a bit making for a somewhat fresh experience. The gameplay is a bit more roguelike, the gear system is changed, you can generate revenue and purchase soldiers for your army, etc.
- You get Lithlad as a new region.

[Mixed]
- When you die in this DLC, Baranor loses all of his inventory and Army since he doesn’t possess the One Ring or have any wraith powers. While this is supposed to be realistic, Baranor still has powers like super speed which comes off as a bit inconsistent.
- The story is decent, but it's simple and forgettable.
- You lose the ability to summon a mount, but to balance things out, you’re able to purchase and summon up to three bodyguards at once.
- Torvin makes a few appearances in this DLC, but he’s a very minor character in it. It ends up just coming off as cheap fan service.

[Negatives]
- $20 is incredibly overpriced for how short it is. This DLC can be 100% within 3-4 hours.
- Many of the missions are Nemesis filler.
- Combat is a bit downgraded. You lose the ability to dominate orcs in battle since Baranor doesn’t possess the One Ring.

[Conclusion]
Desolation of Mordor is a surprisingly decent DLC. It changes things up and offers a fairly unique experience. The story is fine, but nothing special. The main issue is that it’s too overpriced.
6.5/10
