DOOM Eternal: The Ancient Gods – Part Two
Notes
I played the game on Ultra-Violence difficulty.
You can find me base game review here.
You can find my Ancient Gods - Part One review here.

[The Positives]
- Still inherits some positives from the base game.
- Incredible soundtrack.
- Mostly good gameplay.
- Movement is very smooth.
- Nice graphics and art style.
- Some of the levels look really good.

[The Negatives]
- $20 is far too expensive for what it is.
- This DLC only contains three levels (and a boss fight).
- The final boss fight is a boring and tedious Marauder reskin.
- The difficulty of this DLC is more unfair rather than challenging. The fights are a headache in both DLCs. Every fight basically feels like a Slayer Gate, but worse. They last way too long, spam you with way too many enemies, and you have to do it all in one attempt or it’s back to the previous checkpoint. Depending on your difficulty, the enemy spawns, and your skill level, you may end up spending 30+ minutes replaying a single fight if you’re really struggling. In my opinion, I think this was done deliberately to pad out the DLC and make it feel longer than it really is.
- The new enemies are just more annoying reskins.
- The stone imp is yet another enemy that forces you to use one specific weapon mod to kill them.
- The turret enemies are boring to fight.
- The spirit enemies are annoying.
- They doubled down on including more of the controversial platforming sections.
- Enemies are fairly spongy and the combat arenas spam tons of them.
- The story feels too forced given how bland and generic it is.
- The cutscenes can still pull you out of the game unnecessarily.
- Annoying tutorial pop-ups still pull you out of the game.
- The grapple point tutorial is a whole section where you get pulled out of the game and are forced to learn a new mechanic.

[Conclusion]
Much like the first part, The Ancient Gods - Part Two is hard, but not very fun. I actually somewhat enjoyed the second level, but most of this DLC is just as messy and frustrating as part one. It’s not worth $20.
4/10
