I have always been a fan of more arcade style first person shooters like Battlefield, Medal of Honor and Call of Duty so coming into this I didn't know how I would feel about this game. The idea of a World War II Simulator game which was extremly realistic made me a bit worried about this game. There is no hud, ammo indicator or crosshairs to guide you so a lot of skill was required in this game and I clearly lacked it.

However when I joined a server and started playing that all changed. I'm used to playing FPSs where you could run in take 1 or 2 hits and live long enough to down your enemy, while in this game it made me play and think more tactically as 1 hit and you're dead. It feels more like a war where once you get shot that's it. The game however does take a lot of practice to master as it is military sim game, so you would find it furstrating on your first try but overtime you become more used to it and you get better.

Gameplay wise Day of Infamy truly does feel like a World War II experience done right. While it may not be like Medal of Honor or Battlefield 1942 it is still a WWII shooter that captures the atmosphere amazingly. Sound effects are used from real war footage and they give you a real sense of being in that certain battle. The game also is a great example of how good Valve's Source engine is even now in 2018, while it may not be the nicest looking game engine it certainly is reliable and it gives the game a bit of familarity which is very nice.

The game is centered around a class based system, with each class having a certain specilisation or weapon set specific to them. The level system allows you to unlock new units and weapons for the classes which may or may not give you the upper hand. It gives the game much more variety and allows teams to play more tactically using the classes. The game modes are fun to play with my favourite being Frontines, where both teams can push each other back by capturing points. Overall this game is fun, however if you're not into military sims that take time to master then this might not be for you otherwise definitley get this game.

8/10
