Sadly, I'm quite disappointed at this game. It looks polished, and the presentation and art style of Hob is very cute and nice to look at, but that's pretty much the only good thing about it.

First of all, the gameplay is very straightforward and doesn't offer anything new or interesting that you wouldn't find in an average adventure game. The progression through the world is linear. Sure, you can always go back to explore previous areas, but aside for some pointless collectibles, there's no reason to. The "puzzles" are linear and dull, not really puzzles at all. During my 6 hours of playtime, I only encountered puzzles that required pushing the only visible button/lever and advancing to the next button/lever/whatever that emerged.

There characters look nice but are not relatable since they are just mute robots that communicate through gestures. The story and lore are non-existent.

The combat is quite generic: dodge, slash, slash, slash, dodge. There are some special moves but I just ended up whacking the enemies until they died or woke up from my stunlock. The enemies are cutesey but uninspired. There is some character progression through collectibles, but honestly I didn't even notice the effect of the upgrades I purchased.

Final warning to people with Nvidia cards: many people with high-end rigs have complained about huge FPS issues in the forums, and it seems that the problems have been there for a long time. I had these issues as well.

The developers have obviously spent a lot of time and effort on a vibrant and captivating world, expressive animations etc. but that only goes so far when the rest of the experience is mediocre. Maybe the game gets more interesting towards the end, but I grew so bored I couldn't finish it.

Amazing. It's what Half-Life 3 could have been.

By far the most the best story-driven game I've ever played.
The storytelling is as good as it can get. Even though the characters speak gibberish, their every emotion, intent and action is made clear to the player by the excellent animation and voice acting. The beginning of the story itself might seem a little clichéd, but trust me, it's worth it to see the end.
The developers' attention to detail really shows in the level design, optional interactions, cinematic camera movement and the magnificent vistas the game keeps offering you.
The gameplay is simple, yet very enjoyable. Despite all the warnings, you DON'T need a controller to play, I had no trouble using a keyboard.

The next time someone claims video games are not art, I'm going to show them this game.
