This is by far, the best space game I have ever played. When Horizons came out, I had a TON of issues and quit playing the game. I would randomly despawn into jail, pay to get out, game would crash, repeat. It also kept deleting my control scheme and after HOURS wasted trying to put it all back (I really couldn't remember the hundreds of settings until I needed them), I figured out how to save a spare copy. Unfortunately, I was in one of my more expensive ships. After several days and about 20 BILLION credits, I gave up. Frontier did eventually respond to me, force spawn me out of jail, refund my billions lost, so kudos to them. I've dabbled in a few other space games and all they do is remind me how polished the original E:D space combat was.

Life got busy and I just haven't been back in years. I never did get around to a VR and HOTASS setup, but I did get to try it at a friend's. Mind-blowing. Especially if you pump out the audio into a full surround setup.

This games has the BEST control scheme editing I have ever dealt with. But it's a lot, a HUGE learning curve. But once you get it, it's great. Being able to own a carrier to bring your fleet with you, massive Corvettes, and MMO space warfare like no other is one hell of a time. Having a mothership with automated fighters you can also take over, *mwah*.

Even if you don't get the expansion for FPS gameplay, it's worth it. Sometimes it feels like a grind early on, especially figuring out mining (the game did not ever give me a tutorial and having someone not be the best at explaining it made it painful until it clicked). But it doesn't take much to get to a point you can farm those pirates and become one rich mercenary. Still takes a grind and a half to own a carrier.

Or, you can be a guy who hops in a box strapped to an engine and a bay of fuel and explore the tens of thousands of systems (I believe they used to reward people for new systems). There's so many players never even got to when I was playing. I hope Frontier keeps the servers up until all the systems get explored.

0. WHY ARE YOU SHOWING WIDESCREEN IN THE GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE WHEN THIS THING IS STUCK IN SQUAREMODE.

1. This game is so broken for multiplayer.
A. Sometimes items apply to both chars, sometimes they don't but the stacks count. So one guy gets an item, and the other guy gets it next time and gets the 2/x stack bonus.
B. Gold/Store/Diary entries. Sometimes one player or another can't do any action (space/A) buttons. Other times one person has to initiate it and the other has to finish it (diaries, owl). Lots of broken moments of not being able to buy items from store.
C. Aforementioned lack of widescreen. Gives options past 1024x768 but none of them do a friggin thing. Impossible in multiplayer.
D. Why have local co-op when someone is forced to kb/m? Really hard to do "living room entertainment" when the Steam Link only has 2 USB ports. Better have a pairable controller.
E. Want to upgrade your guy? RIP teammate. GG NO RE. You can run around and that's about it. Which is STUPID STUPID STUPID considering in solo you can pull up stats and still run around and attack.

2. Must be athiests because RNGesus hates you. Chests galore, GG NO RE on key drops.

3. Other video options. Selena fight can be terribly difficult when you have flames or mamga tail (creating more flames). So much crap on the screen you can't see her ever.

4. Lack of developer response.
-Check the community posts. "Oh we'll do this" "Oh we'll fix that". About the only thing they did was remove widescreen support... apparently due to "popular demand". Didn't know 4:3 was "popular demand". Not to mention lack of dual controller support and the thousand other co-op bugs. Bought this for co-op, glad it was on sale because I've seen Penny Arcade games with better support.

5. Fun until it gets grindy. If RNGesus loves you, and you're doped up on passives. Suddenly you're just tanking around over and over and over.

Verdict: Worth $2 on sale to waste time on. Not worth the headache for co-op.
