We Were Here Together
This game disappointed me. After enjoying the first game and Expeditions: The FriendShip but disliking the 2nd game, I was really hoping this game would improve on what made the puzzles frustrating, mainly there being no logic to the puzzles, it didn't, which really made the game unfun to play through.

Gameplay
The first 3 chapters where you are together are the best part of this game, the puzzles were intuitive and were fun to solve and if it kept this sort of design the game would've been great.

Each chapter going forward has some sort of element to each puzzle that you couldn't possibly work out with logic, even worse some rooms have your partner see something completely different to you to where communicating it to you, the literal main aspect of WWH games, doesn't help in the slightest.

Light spoilers but I feel examples need to be given:
  • Chapter 6 has a room with fuses where you need to send an electric current through a bunch of towers, your partner sees a map of the coloured fuses, rather than them having the correct layout of towers in a circle, they have a convoluted mess that makes no sense even once you have seen it.
  • Chapter 7 has pipes with coloured gasses but nowhere does it explain that there cannot be any gas leaks.
  • Chapter 8 has to be the absolute worst offender where one part of the puzzle has you have to match the beat/sound of a clock that the other player hears, there is no indication of this whatsoever.
There are other aspects and issues like trial and error being very prevalent, but these were the worst puzzles for lack of logic.

Story
The "story" aspect to the game was also very weak and confusing. You set out at the start to rescue some missing people and then at the end there is a fight between a Jester and a ghost? Where the hell did this come from? Both players see different people and cut-scenes throughout the game so when it all comes together in the final chapter, neither player actually understands what's going on.

Achievements (22/22)
As with all WWH games there are achievements for playing on each side of the puzzles, weirdly though the last 2 achievements can only be gotten with 2 choices on one of the sides, meaning you have to replay chapter 10 four times.

Music/sound
Just like the other WWH games, you are given a walkie-talkie to communicate with your partner which is a great way of bringing you into the world and setting the tone.

Settings/Accessibility/Misc
Server browser to play with random players and set preferred primary/secondary language. Keyboard, mouse and gamepad support with remappable controls. 22 languages supported, with only English for in-game VA.

TL;DR
Disappointing Co-op puzzle game. 2 different roles with unique gameplay. Starts off strong but becomes unintuitive and lacks logic quickly. Weak and confusing story. 2 playthroughs to 100%

Thanks @JHG! I'll give those a try! Still to play WWH: Expeditions, so hopefully that ends up being better than this one, as I fully agree with most of what you've said here, especially with the frustration of one player tending to sit around while the other has to do the puzzle by themselves.

@Deadmano The Original We Were Here and We Were Here Expeditions: The Friendship have solid logic puzzles.

I did play a prologue for a game called "In Sink" which has the same vibe as We Were Here and was pretty enjoyable, but I am yet to play the full game.

What games would you recommend similar to this that doesn't have the frustrating element but is still enjoyable as co-op? And which of the games in the series have a solid logic-based approach to puzzle-solving?
