This game pretty much describes my times in Middle School and High School. Almost everyday I played this game in Middle School, but the hours have mellowed in High School after my interests in traditional art and my expansion to newer interests. Originally got it on my first laptop from my old account (that I forgot the password to). I remember the update was 1.0.5, (wasn’t it the rocket boots update?) and my PC pretty much crapped out on me after a few weeks when I bought the game. Around 2012-2013, the game came out for Xbox 360, my lil mind just nutted 50 times. This was the beginning of the addiction on overdrive.

I bought the game on the Xbox 360, everyday after school, I would play Terraria 12 hours a day during summer. I would invite my friend over to eventually conquer hardmode (pre-Plantera update). During the Summer between 8th-9th grade, I got myself a new Laptop. And then I forgot my old account, so I created a new Steam Account, mostly because it was on my Dad’s email. I bought Terraria again, but didn’t play it on the PC until 1.2. I’d play bits of it on the PC, but I was so used to the Xbox controls, I decided to stick with the Xbox 360.

Eventually that PC craps out, and then I waited a whole year until I finally get a new PC. 1.2 just came out a week ago and I was borrowing mom’s PC. I got Steam, downloaded Terraria, a few weeks later mom starts arguing with me that Steam is a virus. I use her Norton Antivirus and MacAfee to scan the PC, no virus was unveiled, but Norton says MacAfee and BigFishGames maybe a threat. I kinda just ignored those messages, not wanting to mess with her stuff. Next year, she passed the PC down to me, I don’t play games as much anymore due to my new found for art.

I factory reset the junky PC, redownloaded Steam, and play Terraria for mostly nostalgic reasons. I could review it by update, but I was gone for most of the 1.2 updates. This game has changed a lot in art style and design, but the gameplay has always stayed true to its original idea. Explore, Loot, Dig. The main three components of the game.

Exploring is probably the most important part of Terraria in my opinion, I simple can’t start a game with a character prepackaged with the essentials. I want to go out and have the troubles of the beginning, scraping for the best of items early on. I always rush to the Dungeon after I get a full set of iron armor for the chance of a water bolt. I check every detail in the earth now to locate the enchanted sword shrines. I’ve played the game enough to know what to do and what to get.

Looting has always been a treat, makes me feel awarded whenever I open hold chest. Sadly that joy fades away very quickly right when you enter hardmode. Chests are relatively useless in hardmode (unless you count the biome chests). But enemy loot is almost always useful, even if you’re in the deepest ends of hardmode. I understand why there are no hardmode chests in the underground, but a chest feels more magical than a loot drop, yet a loot drop feels more rewarding.

Digging, you’ll be doing that a lot in this game, get used to it. (Unless you get lucky).

Is this game good? Heck yeah! If you’re looking for a goodtime with friends or just by yourself, I’d recommend this game. I’d give this game a 8.7/10, real good!
