Early Access Review
A very solid Early Access title.

At launch there are a handful of design choice quirks and not the greatest information display on how things work, but it is polished enough to make exploring these fun and interesting rather than feeling entirely broken.

In its current development state it works nicely as a cute little village simulator to play around with. Most features have plenty of room for development growth over time from a small dev, but they are still completed enough to make an enjoyable and playable title.

This game has a wide range of quirks, and it is very much NOT the same as other city builders that might appear similar.

The developers are making obvious progress, and the game is evolving. While I cannot recommend anyone with a highly limited gaming budget roll the dice on the continued progress over buying various older and more polished titles, I can recommend this to anyone who is comfortable being more free with their spending and supporting a small dev.

If you catch it on sale it quickly nets a better "Hours of entertainment per dollar" compared to seeing a movie as you explore and guide your group of people through prehistoric development.

Watch some recent youtube content on it and judge for yourself before diving in.

The game showed off loads of promise, but it really falls down into an uninspired unpolished mess of tedium.

A game that dips its toes into different styles, but fails to actually grasp any of them.

Game runs fine with after disabling volumetric options in the settings, and has been consistently smooth and entirely playable with high resolution display on a mid-budget rig.

A promising improvement over the base CS1 game.

Ironically FPS counter appears bugged and sometimes displays 1fps while game still scrolls smoothly.

A horribly broken game that can't manage to allow basic components of its tutorial system to complete. Key elements may fail to load in and block progress, and require a reload to get past.

Tutorial to teach user how to deal with in game missions asks you to accept a mission as the only part of said mission, but does have any functionality to actually accept the mission. I could abort or set inactive, but apparently not accept.

Do you want to be frustrated and have any sense of accomplishment destroyed by random and arbitrary game design choices, like an army advancing, splitting its front line into two, and then randomly giving up and going home? Or having the next law change you need to be blocked from being implemented by the same group who supports enacting it?

Then Vic3 might be the game for you!

On paper this is an awesome game of a slow grand strategy game that isn't just 'move armies around the map'. In practice it is a frustrating headache with clashing tooltips and poor information display.

Gameplay feels clunky and horribly dated, and while it is running fine on modern hardware I can't say it is nearly as entertaining as I remember it being before.

Mechanics are clunky at best, controls frequently leave you feeling rather hamfisted, and the gameplay is centered around pure grinding interspaced with some really bad 'challenges'.

Purcahsed to test it as something to get my nephews, but will pass on this. Barely keeps young kids who love heavy equipment interested, and the slow unlock progression makes it hard to get them new toys to play with.

'Simulation' is more than a little misleading for a genre catagory to place this game in.
