Destiny is a game that has been through a lot, both for better and for worse. The Final Shape was do or die, Bungie needed to properly conclude the story of the light and dark saga while simultaneously delivering great content. Well, Bungie did it. TFS surpasses The Taken King and The Witch Queen..... and it isn't even close. I've literally grown up with this game and can say that this ending (yes, I'm aware the game is continuing, but still) is the peak of the game (assuming you aren't a new player or have not been absent for significant amount(s) of time).

PvP matchmaking and balancing is still an embarassment.

Unlike some people, I've actually played the game a bit before reviewing, so I actually have some idea of how the performance is. My rig is by no means up to date, but the game still runs pretty well! Nixxes definitely did a great job with this one.

Specs/Performance:

GPU: 1080ti
CPU: 17-7700k
Ram: 32 GB
SSD: 970 EVO Plus
Monitor: 1080p

Game runs at 45-60 fps on a combination of medium and low settings.

The gameplay is the exact kinda stuff I want to see in a sequel. They kept what was good, while building upon the machines and combat to add plenty of depth.

The overall story and world are incredible. Exploring the Forbidden West is always fun, with the main story being pretty exciting. My only complaint is Aloy just acting like a straight up ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ most of the time, and A LOT of forced diversity. I'd be amazed if Sweet Baby Inc. wasn't involved.

Also what's up with the Aloy face change? It's not as big a thing as people make it out to be, but it's something that definitely changed and just feels so weird.

Overall I enjoyed this game quite a bit.

While the combat could sometimes get somewhat boring, there was just enough enemy and weapon variety to let my play through be enjoyable.

As for the story/world, I've never seen anything this unique in a video game. The mystery of the machines and how the apocalypse came to be was extremely interesting the whole way through. Aloy could be a bit of a prick sometimes tho, like I get it, strong female character, but tone down the pretentious act a bit, sheesh.

My only real complaint is that the game seemingly took every last chance it could to make sure most male characters were portrayed in a negative light, while the female characters were almost always portrayed to be significantly better. I have nothing against strong female characters and unlikable male characters, but this game took that to the extreme, and was especially apparent after playing the side content.

I don't think this game is even worth giving a proper review for so I'll just bullet point the bad and good.

Good:
1. Graphics
2. General gunplay
3. Traversal
4. Voice Acting (mostly, I hate Ivy)

Bad:
1. Endgame
2. Main story (anyone okay with how dirty Batman was done is insane, and that barely covers how bad the story was overall)
3. Missed opportunity for crazy builds/perks/abilities
4. Micro transaction price increase
5. Batman and Brainiac boss fights (arguably the 2 most important ones to get right)
6. Season 1 Episode 1 (basically season 0 endgame was copied over, but somehow worse. minor visual changes to preexisting arenas, the worst BP I've ever seen, and next to no story. I imagine all future seasons and episodes will be the same, as a lot of it is already made)

Obviously this is just surface level info, but I can't be bothered to go in depth.

I honestly don't see how this game is considered to be even remotely good.

The gameplay and UI are both atrociously outdated, and it's hard to imagine either feeling good back when the game came out.

I know the game gets a lot of praise, but a lot of that is likely from those who played when it was first popular and haven't been able to take the nostalgia glasses off since.

This is one of those stories you want to forget just so you can play it again.

An incredible creative incremental game where numbers just don't stop getting bigger. Absolute must play for fans of the genre.

This game has absolutely no right to be as popular as it is.

This is hands down some of the worst feeling gun-play and movement that I've ever experienced. I haven't played in nearly 4 years, and only came back to try the new CS2, and it's somehow worse than I remembered.

"You have to get used to the gun-play and movement, then you'll enjoy it!" This is a horrible reason. One of, if not the best feeling shooters of all time is Destiny 2. You can play that game for the first time and have everything feel natural, smooth, and satisfying. If I need to spend a significant amount of time getting acclimated to the gameplay, then that is just a major flaw in the games core design.

Don't play this game.

Settings:

Combination of medium and low on a 1080p monitor

Specs:

GPU: 1080ti
CPU: i7-7700k
RAM: 32 GB DDR4 2400MHz
SSD: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2 TB

This is a game that can be played on a PS4, and considering my PC is significantly better, there is absolutely no reason for my performance to range from 25 to 60 fps (tending to stay on the lower side) on medium/low settings. I even crashed multiple times just from changing graphics.

After several patches and the recent review rate going up to 89% (prior to the Sony sale) I expected a LOT more. Within a couple days of the current Sony sale, the recent review rate has dipped by 3% at the time of this review. Wait for several patches, and for the game to maintain a recent review rating of 90%+ for at least a month.

Edit: Somehow 2 months has passed with no further improvements. Just wow

How do you release 4 of these games and ♥♥♥♥ up the driving EVERY SINGLE TIME??

In all seriousness, this is a great game. The wingsuit/grapple/parachute traversal is unmatched, and the limitless methods of destruction is amazing.
