It's incredible how Wollay keeps getting away with failing to deliver on all the promises he made about this game. For a game that's been ~6 years in development by a dev who ghosts his fans only to release something arguably worse than it's alpha, it's truly shocking to see how many positive reviews this game has been getting based off the merit that it exists at all.

The Alpha from 2013 felt more complete than this, considering that there was at least an XP system, skill tree, and the fact that you could actually **KEEP** your items when traveling into new areas made it at least feel that there was SOME idea of progression since you could always become stronger or customize your items with different spirit cubes. Being rewarded with garbage "Artifacts" that give you an increased lantern radius (lol) animal movement speed, and a slight faster rate of fire means absolutely nothing in the long run, and only serves to waste your time to complete quests in one area.

At the moment, the game is nothing but a walking sim, rng fest for items. Enemies levels and drops are scaled horribly in most areas (eg: 3-5 star enemies right around the edges of the starting villages) the lack of skill points, the complete absence of the spirit system entirely (spirit cubes, remember those?), having no skill tree customization, lack of incentive to ever really leave a particular area considering everything is the same and you lose your gear regardless, and the fact that even basic mechanics like wall climbing, and gliding feel clunky and make expedient exploring feel worse over all.

I want this game to succeed so badly, but being lied to, having content either be witheld or downright scrapped entirely, and seeing people pretend that these problems don't actually exist just to feign politeness or be "supportive" sickens me. I hope that on the 30th when the game officially releases things will be different, and that Wollay will continue to support, fix and add exciting new features in the future, but given the track record so far of his incompetency and the state of the game currently, I can't say I'm very optimistic.

EDIT: It's September 30th and nothing has changed. The only way this could ever be salvaged is if Cube World is updated to have the content that many of us were promised 6 years ago. It has the potential to be a fantastic game, it's just a shame that the dev simply does not care anymore.

I never thought a game with skeletons and dogs could invoke such powerful emotions.

Early Access Review
The asthetics and atmosphere are actually done quite well, the overall presentation is also pleasing, however the grid mechanic is lacking detail, if made a bit smaller and more accurate to the green's contours it would be much more useful
