TL;DR
Another decent installment in the classic franchise. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys FPS games.
+ Interesting setting and satisfactory writing
+ Solid gunplay
+ Good sound and graphics
+ Many weapons and upgrades
+ Perks
+ Collectibles
+/- Linearity
- No manual save (thanks, consoles!)
- Tedious at times but not really challenging
- The AI is lacklustre

REVIEW

Wolfenstein: The New Order is an FPS set in an alternative reality. The Nazis won the war and rule the Earth. The player gets to play as William "B.J." Blazkowicz and is supposed to stop the oppressors for the nth time. It never gets old though.

Obviously, there is much more to the story but I will try to keep the review as spoiler-free as possible. The plot features a few twists and the game is paced just about right, leaving the player engaged throughout. Adding depth to the story, there are magazine and newspaper fragments, notes, and documents scattered around. Interesingly enough, the aforementioned papers are written in several languages, which is a nice touch. The graphic style and sounds fit the atmosphere perfectly.

The gameplay mechanics are solid. Guns shoot where one points them (most of the time), the cover system works rather well, and perks and upgrades enhance the player's playstyle. There are many weapons and most of them feature an alternative firing mode and/or can be dual wielded. Furthermore, whether the player prefers going sneaky beaky like or with all guns blazing, they are going to have a great time. My only complaints are that there is no manual save (which is the biggest pet peeve of mine), the AI is subpar and the game is a tad too easy overall – I started on the last but one difficulty and had only been stuck at some boss fights and areas with swarming enemies. A good example of the AI being lacklustre would be the fact that I could take down one enemy without alerting the other one standing less than a metre away.

In short, Wolfenstein: The New Order is a title I would recommend to any FPS enthusiast. If one is looking for an oldschool shooter with a few modern touches, this game delivers.
