Some maps are downright unplayable with ramps getting your car stuck. Progression is a grindfest for scrap, and boxes are literal scams.

Add more substance to the core game mechanics. If not, don't be surprised by me and others refunding it for wasting 90 minutes of my life.

Holy molly this game.

Where to start, alright first off this review is going to have spoilers so keep that in mind.

This game not only challegened the norms of dating sims, it ALSO challegened the very idea of what love means to all of us. Sure we can sit here and say the game is scary or creppy or distrubing but if that were case then we would have been missing the point this whole time of what game was truly trying to tell us. This is NOT to say that the issues addressed in this game are not important, but rather they are building blocks for this bigger picture in a virtual reality dating sim talking itself outside of the 2-Dimensional boundary.

The first sign this game is bigger than what the plot leads us on to is the fact Monika in the very first set of days (first arc) subtley drops hints in reguards to important decisions that must be made. There are also sublte allusions to the future in her poems. Ultimatley we know anything that is decided is futile and eventually leads us to the room of Monika and us (the Main Character/MC). I am not here to discuss this factor but it is important to what I am here for; which is use this as a sign that game wants us to take something away from it instead of indulging and immersing ourselves in it. Most VN/Dating Sims (more with Dating Sims) want you to escape the confinds of reality but in fact, this game does the EXACT opposite. Although subtly, it pulls you back into the reality that is life and NOT a game.

All the hidden indications in the First Arc prove this. For example, why would the game tell us while Yuri is in our house that she is pulling down her sleeve after we come back from filling cups with water UNLESS there was signficance to it? There's no point in a trivial detail unless if it points to other signs in the future. We know Monika was already influencing these characters in the First Arc, she tells us that, but what I am getting around to is the fact the game executes the concept of "getting back to reality" as though it is a scary experience; meaning we are scared to live in this world we call life. And I don't blame anyone!

You don't know if sombody on the street is someone they are NOT. You don't know if they have deep personal problems or if they just barely continue to function as human beings. My point: this game understands that and eventually blatantly shoves reality in our face with a character who would act JUST like we would in their given set of circumstances. Not to forget but also mention how the other three girls have mental illness/problems that ultimatley lead to their deaths or "deletions".

Monika is true embodiment of being a human. She know's she doesn't get scrren time so she wants it. A normal dating sim would skip over the fact that it forces you to follow a certain path, however this game charges at this point straight on; not being afraid of the consequences that may come in the future. This is WHY Monika reqrets everything she has done to the game and fixes all of the game except including herself again.

In conclusion, if you want a game that can genuinely amuse you for laughs and giggles, NEKOPARA and Sakura Angles are around the corner, but this game is certainly not that. And THAT is why it is unique in the dating sim world; it teaches us that no matter where we go, reality is still here, time is still ticking, and moments are still passing.

TLDR: Good Physcological Thriller/Horror with a side of Stereotypical Dating Sim. If you get spooked easily, then go watch a playthrough or don't at all because the issues present in the game really hit home for most of us (especially out of no where).
