It's far too buggy with clicking and poorly balanced. The game is built on bought assets from kenmi-art on itchio, and he used ai for code in his Twitch stream. The result is a lack of optimization, and a lack of skill and technical knowledge to meaningfully improve the game. The game is severely unpolished and overall tedious enough to push you past the refund gate of two hours. I'm really disappointed.

I was just gonna leave this as a simple review: but it seems people who are leaving negative reviews are illiterate and don't know how to read descriptions before buying a game. Or even playing a demo.

The game is solid for what it is. It's a creature collection game, but in a more niche category of creature creation (or genetics games). And this game does that perfectly. If you like the Chao Gardens or Spore, this game scratches that itch with customization, and it's not difficult with genetics like some games do.

This game is not, and has never been, an idler. The demo, the playtest, the full release, it's always been hands-on. The tags for 'idler' were community generated, and the dev even forcibly removed the idler tag. The store page itself has no indication it would be a hands-off experience, even before release. You cannot customize a creature if you aren't playing the game. It's not a hard concept to grasp.

Devs are abandoning this game to re-upload it as a "New Remaster" to siphon money from players. The "New" one is just the same game with a shader thrown on top. They don't intend to update this game any more, they're only going to bug fix the re-upload. Devs just want to force people to buy the same game twice in an f'ed up money making scheme, avoid this franchise and spare your wallet.

As much as I love this game, I won't recommend it to anyone with the state it's in now here on PC. There's so many bugs that hard-lock your game and force you to manually close the exe, and three of them are at the shops where you have to buy the equivalent of pokeballs.

The devs have refused to update the steam version despite being half unplayable, stating on the discord that there will be no more patches for PC and the new game takes priority.

Needing to manually save before using a number of base features of the game can wear you down, and if you forget even once, you lose a lot of progress. It's not worth the time sink. The devs have said they got their moneys worth out of this game and patching it would be a waste of time, time best spent elsewhere, but disrespecting the time of people who bought this game leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Unless the devs hire a new coder to come in and sweep up, steer clear of this game.

There's like two or three dozen different mouths and eyes- and only 3 single hair options. Including in the paid DLC.

Early Access Review
I replayed this game again, and I remembered specifically why I hate it.

The devs made MOST things like furniture/cosmetics/food recipes- Random Chance. A good portion of the recipes only found by mine chests, (now) farming/foraging, fish chests, the stupid chicken statue, the wishing well, etc, and at a gruelingly small drop rate. They decided the game needed, not one, but TWO roulette wheels with the wishing well and the chicken statue.

The ONLY reason I can see this from a game design perspective is to inflate playtime by Not making these purchasable items in stores. And it's gross and frustrating. "They need a gimmick to make it different from Stardew!" Random Chance aint it.

The other issue I have is the animal colors. They started off with good colors of real animals on a few of them. Well thought out and cute. Then they got tired and said "just make most of them one solid color. who cares." It's like they worked on the first two tiers of the ducks and the "fall" variants of the animals first, and then gave up and phoned in the rest. They also set up the sprites in such a way that makes it horrible to try and mod new colors for them.

There's a portion of items you have to buy other games to access. There's not a lot of items to start with so it kind of really sucks the items are being walled like this.

The first few hours of the game are fun, (when the story is rolling), but then it becomes an impossible grindy slog post-game to reach max bars with everyone. Especially certain 'rarer' species. The spawn rate of the big white ones patrolling the marsh are still abysmal and will take irl hours of searching, even after the reluctant adjustment made by the devs.

There's very sparse customization if you were looking foward to that in this game. The starting birds are all there is, and there's very few (sometimes only 2) clothing items to pick from, despite the sheep wool being the only collectible in the game you can continue to harvest indefinitely.

The post game is also bare and unfinished. There's no rewards for completing your collection besides making that species glow, no new cutscenes and barely a scrap of dialog about it; but given the forced camera angles and your flock liking to get between you and the camera while you're trying to do something in a lot of areas, it's a huge hindrance and not a reward as the glow makes it even harder to see.

I don't know if the devs just want to artificially boost hours played or what, but the spawn rates of some of these creatures makes this game unenjoyable and more like a chore. 20$ is pretty steep for a 2-3 hour game, which is how long the story takes, I don't recommend buying it off sale.
