Entrada Interactive LLC's description of their open world multiplayer survival game, Miscreated, shouldn't be taken lightly. In fact, it should be heeded as a warning; abandon all hope ye who enter here, for this is a survival game for the truly hardcore and dedicated. Boasting over 70 weapons, an assortment of vehicles, a crafting system, scavenging, hunger and thirst meters, base building, perma-death, and both PVP and PVE elements, this release seems to have it all.

I decided to venture into the world of Miscreated on a well populated server, with 47 people online out of the 50 capacity. After all, it's a mandatory multiplayer game, and those who are looking to buy it should be ready to deal with the raw, uninhibited nature of man. Making my way through the area that I spawned in, I found little to no resources. I finally managed to stumble across some food and beverages, and once that was out of the way I set in place my first goal; get enough rags to craft a bag. Inventory space in Miscreated is extremely limited, and a bag is a starting essential. After running around for half an hour and searching a multitude of houses and buildings, everything was seemingly already looted to no avail. Deciding to end it all, I climbed up to the very rooftop of a building, and right as I was about to jump off and end my life, some unseen foe sniped me from afar.

Queue my second adventure on a completely empty server. I figured I would have better luck here with scavenging resources to actually get started, but my hopes were quickly dashed with every search turning up "nothing found". Needless to say, I eventually crafted my bag and set out on my new task; obtain a weapon. By this time I had barely managed to escape a PVE monster by pummeling him to death with my fists, and many more had chased me away from an assortment of potential looting grounds. These PVE foes will chase you to the ends of the earth, or until you run out of stamina, unless you manage to weave in and out of brush and between buildings; they're fairly smart that way. I eventually found a hatchet, but I was swiftly killed soon after by a PVE monster when I was collecting lumber from a nearby tree.

From my little bit of time with this game, I can say that the absence of loot is one of Miscreated's biggest downfalls. Yes, it's a hardcore survival title, but when you spend collectively an hour searching a dozen or more areas for supplies, and finally barely gather enough materials to craft the most simplistic item in the game, it's more than a little off-putting. Especially when you take into account that once you die, you lose everything. During my hour with Miscreated, I found no vehicles and no additional weapons. The world that I found myself in was extremely immersive and beautiful, but decidedly empty. I found myself praying that it would stay that way since I could barely craft a pathetic bag, much less find any means of defense. There's no map system, and not even a compass, leaving you with no idea where to possibly relocate to next.

That brings this review to the next point. There's really no end goal here, other than the goals that you create for yourself. This can be both a good thing, and a bad thing, depending on how RNGesus treats you. On the one hand, crafting something as simple as a starting bag can make you feel like the king of the world because resources are so scarce. On the other hand, you'll eventually reach a point where (if you put in the hundreds of hours it will take) you're on the top of the food chain, you'll have no further self-implemented goals and ultimately no reason to continue playing. Or, you'll have crafted that damned bag after an hour or more of scavenging the materials one too many times and get bored.

The point of survival is to actually be able to survive, and it's nearly impossible to do that with no available loot even on an empty server; much less if you're starting on a heavily populated one that has already been ransacked. This, mixed with a lack of actual content that climbs above and beyond nothing but continual looting, will more than likely be Miscreated's cause of death. Those looking to take advantage of this game on sale, consider yourself warned, you may very well spend a dozen hours or more simply getting started, only to do it all over again once you succumb to your inevitable perma-death. Beware those that call for aid, for they may very well just lead you into a trap.
