"TNOTS THE NITE-!!"

Here's The Thing:
You are Adam, an overly trusting individual and pushover friend who agrees to the idea of scavenging for valuables in a run-down post office! Surprise, surprise things don’t end up good for them both when it becomes clear that a scissor-handy killer resides there. But how dead are we talking exactly~

[+] PROS;

:) GROWING A PAIR~
Longtime fans of horror classics like Silent Hill or Resident Evil will rejoice at how uncanny it all feels. No tank control? No problem! No combat whastoever? You’ll learn to live with it… The kicker however, is in the gameplay perspective in which you are to assume. Where you can alternate between or stick to either a third person with fixed camera angles or behind the character, each having their own strengths.

Nothing quite like having no guidance as to what to do and where to go. You’re minding your own illegal business and you hear the sound of a door shutting in the distance. Last you checked; it was a building that had nobody around. The bottled-up panic soon exploding into a frenzy of exhilaration as you take off non-stop from cover to hiding spot while the camera tails you mimicking the killer’s sights.

This review definitely lasts longer than the game itself… With but a mere single ending, that is to my knowledge of course. But getting there for the first time is a rush of blood totaling 30 minutes tops. Though I can now speedrun this in like 4-5 minutes. I have to concede that I do still get bewildered and overconfident. The latter of which can always be remedied by a shanking motion~

TIPS:
1) The killer’s appearances work on a timer. So, you better get a move on!

:) LETTER RIP!
The environments, goodness me… Stay so committed and true to its forsaken nature while retaining the illusion of the once bustling office. Only now with more grubby surfaces, yellowing paint flaking off and cracks having their own cracks. The fixed angles magnify the apprehension of what may come out swerving at you. Tag-teaming with your not very visible light source, which isn’t that threatening by itself. But pales in comparison to the darkness, has you feeling woozy and sticking out like a sore thumb.

The soundtrack also packed up and left the area ages ago. All that remain are echoes of your not-a-burglar footsteps, the clicking of your flashlight and doors swinging open. But wait, there’s also a recurring almost hypnotic sound. You’ve heard it frequently growing up, fiddling with it as a kid, in school and what have you. Maybe at the tailor’s, though never on its own. Then it’s clear to you- it was from two blades of a scissor striking together mechanically. Itching for something else to be caught in between them~

:) CUTTING TO THE CHASE…
The story of a serial killer in unsuspecting places is not unheard of and in fact, cut from the same cloth by this point. But it’s always electrifying to see how they play and pan out! Do they finally meet their match? How many bodies will pile up?? Will there be a twist at the end!? And going down in a post office, that’s pretty rare and thus neato!

The Snipper’s origins, much less motives are left on a furtive note but people are indeed aware of their existence and atrocious crimes. Except for the two scums of the earth, which could explain that they may not be locals. The Snipper has a M.O. that’s predictable, with a penchant for trophies but otherwise random in choice of victims’ characteristics. It’s quite fun to piece together the limbs, so to speak in order to get a better read of this rascal of a sadist~

:) KEEPING YOU POSTED?
I think the trend of “the lesser of two evils” which has seen a resurgence in home invasion films, thriller-horrors and now here, is marvelous because you start to place the severity of their crimes on a scale. With murder obviously being worse than petty crime- actually the latter has yet to even happen despite intentions being harbored… Regardless, it’s the unlikeliest of scenarios, which really make you question your choices and where your life has derailed if even crime is something you’re awful at.

Try as you might to feel secure, there is horror everywhere around us! The case of the Snipper may be speculatory (as the individual’s still out there somewhere) but a few newspaper articles pointed to how they were often targeted in secluded places, then had shrines erected on where they met their doom. Or how near-victims distinctly remember being on their lonesome and picking up on the Snipper’s signature tell as if they were close by. All signs get reenacted and so it doesn’t bode well for you.

I for one, never thought I’d be so afraid of a pair of scissors! Like not even on the league of the Scissorman’s but just a pair of ordinary ones… Especially that cringe-worthy and dreadful sound, kind of like chalk screeching on the blackboard. The change in pacing of the snipping; say whenever the killer’s just playfully snooping around hoping to find some dead meat versus a revved up and enthusiastic version when you are right in front of the killer…

[-] CONS;

:( GETTING SNIPPY WITH IT.
I couldn’t pinpoint exactly why this title didn’t deserve a perfect score- but then it occurred to me. It’s not so much a survival horror as it is a walking simulator in 3rd person. It’s still far from an abysmal game, but I just would have loved that push and nudge to being a full-fledged one. God knows, it already got the abandoned and screwy setting down to a t!

It wasn’t a question of length, as it was a troubling lack of personality. The antagonist fared better, despite having a vanilla look. Whereas the protagonist is just unfortunate. I get that its slasher film equivalents- like a buttload of them are not immune to this criticism either. But come on, you have the dumb motive, fodder to a killer except with a straight face throughout~

BUGS:
x One absolutely exceptional, hard to replicate softlock involves you going out of your way and not behaving as you should.

NITPICKS:
~ Absence of an inventory makes it a little tough to discern what you are carrying and where you should be heading next.
~ Being able to phase through opened doors is a little disconcerting to see.
~ Dying to the killer’s scissors will reload the last checkpoint except you are wearing bloodied clothes. Which I shouldn’t complain- but why!?
~ You could grab the loot really early on, but still be unable to leave!? Wasted opportunity for a secret ending there!
~ Inability to pause except when the confines of a hiding spot is a weird handicap.
~ The “continue” prompt ruins the Silent Hill style of captions.

Last Words?
Scissor-happy slasher the exact opposite of dull, making full use of what it’s GUT by way of anxiety and tension in the window of time. Not too shabby killer, but isn’t unique no matter how it’s cut~

If you’d like a taste of that old school survival horror magic in form but not in substance. If you’d love a mash up of it along with the slasher tropes you know and secretly can’t get enough of. Then tonight’s your lucky night, for all you know~

8 / 10

I wasn't actually bothered, just an excuse for my own scissor puns. Sorry if I seemed... snippy.

Your godawful scissor puns make me want to "clip" you.. you really need to "cut it out" with that.. before I "kill you or myself with scissors"

100 euros might convince me of your good intentions. :bbtduckshark:

@AviaRa No, no, NO!!! My bad, that came off cold and distant.

I meant to say, you don't like PS1 block-style and textureless graphics in your horror games.

I was just letting you know that I feel you and it's all good~

So you blame me. Not cool. :kid:

@AviaRa I'm beginning to see a trend with you ahahha.

I understand, like a static picture doesn't mean much : 3

And you're right about it being your problem, but no worries~

Sounds like a horror title done right, for sure. Though I'm not sure if its visuals would frighten me somehow, but that's just my problem, lol
