Played this on the Steam Deck and it works quite well on there.
This is 2 thumbs up, and 2 thumbs down for me. Why the weird score?

Well, it has good Tetris. And it has good Puyo Puyo. Those are the two thumbs up.

But then, to finish the game, you have to master the new mode, the literally named Fusion mode which is .. the fusion of both. Unfortunately for me, this mode doesn't work the way you'd expect. Instead of sticking to color + shapes for line completion, there is the concept of the tetris pieces "squashing" through the Puyo Puyo pieces. This should be delightful and chaotic and result in all sorts of bonus modes that might be hard to predict but leave the player feeling like a badass. What it does instead is ensure a death by slow accumulation of excess rows. So, that's a thumbs down too; Fusion feels like a bad design to me. I don't like it.

Lastly, and this is the real nail in the coffin for me: There is no true single player mode in the Fusion mode. Sure, I can play without other players. However, even in that situation, I have to play Vs. a computer opponent. Consequently, in EVERY game, I am constantly fighting the the garbage effect from the computer opponent. There is no true single player mode, so there's no real chance to master that mode and appreciate it on its own without the Vs. mechanics. I should note here, lest anyone think I don't understand the game, that Fusion mode depends upon the existence of garbage puyos. These are pieces you can dump on other players or have dumped on you. Part of the fun of Fusion mode is getting to squash these with tetrominos. Without that Fusion lacks any real spice, so I suppose that's why a Vs. mode is required. However, it feels like a bad design to have a mode that cannot stand in a single player situation like Tetris itself can. Perhaps I expected too much, but I was disappointed.

In many ways, this title should be a no-brainer for Tetris and Puyo Puyo fans. And for hardcore fans of either, it's probably a must-have; as long as they don't expect too much from Fusion mode; which was my mistake. For the average person though, I cannot recommend this title; which is a damn shame because it boasts very high production values in all respects.

This barely gets a thumbs up from me simply because it is otherwise well done and to adjust for my own up front expectations of Fusion mode.

Oh, you're right of course. I was just thinking about Fusion mode when I wrote that, despite the inaccurate wording. It's corrected now.

wdym there's a lack of no-garbage, non-VS modes? The "Puyo Puyo" and "Tetris" options next to the main menu button, on the first screen, are exactly those.
