FINAL FANTASY XII was one of my first games i played on the Ps2 and since then have spend close to one thousand hours in the world of Ivalice on Ps2, Ps4 and now on the Steam Version. To this day its both my favorite Final Fantasy game and favorite game of all time.

The Positives
  • Stable Port, didn‘t encounter any crashes or fps drops.
  • Awesome Soundtrack. Lets you choose between original and remastered Soundtrack. Here are some examples of my personal favorites : Esper Battle, Rabanastre, Phon Coast, Golmore Jungle
  • Enganging Story with interesting characters
  • Ivalice. Probably the best world setting i’ve ever seen in any game. Each area feels unique.
  • Endgame. Lots of hunts, secrets and Superbosses to take care of.
  • The Battle System. It lets you run around freely in the world so you can freely engange enemies without it having you teleport to a separate area (like the older turn based FF games). With the Gambit System you can ‚program‘ the actions of each character. It lets you set several conditions and actions. For Example: If you have a condition ‚Characters Health > 70%‘ and an action ‚Cure‘ the characters will automatically use Cure on a character with less than 70% health. There are a lot of Gambits you can choose from according to your play style. But Gambits aren’t fool-proof so there are fights were you need to intervene manually.
  • 12 jobs to choose from, each character can have two
  • License board lets you buy the right to use a Weapon or Skill with License Points (LP)
  • Fast-Forward option lets you speed up the game 2x and 4x
  • New ‚Fieldmap‘ so you dont have to go into the menu to loop at the map
  • New Game + and New Game – (lowlevel challenge run)
  • New 100 Floor Trial
  • Game is moddable, Nexusmods[www.nexusmods.com]
  • Steam Achievements and Trading Cards

The Mediocre
  • Main Character, many would say that the main protagonist is straight up annoying and completely useless. The game’s story is told trough a ‚nobodies‘ point-of-view, were the actual protagonist to the story is someone else Ashe or Balthier/Basch in that case
  • Ingame cheats as in Maximal Gil and LP. Would rate against this as it could ruin the game experience and make the game way easier.
  • Removed intro cutscene when you launch the game

The Negatives
  • After the Pc release the Switch and Xbox releases got new additional features including a Job reset function and an improved New Game +. These are currently not on Steam or Ps4 Version of the game and there is no word if they’ll come in future.
  • Price may be a bit high for a 13 year old game.

"Main Character, many would say that the main protagonist is straight up annoying and completely useless. The game’s story is told trough a ‚nobodies‘ point-of-view, were the actual protagonist to the story is someone else !"

That is because Basch was originally conceived to be the main character, and every other main character were supposed to pivot around him.
Square (and other Japanese publishers), at that time, was trying to find a way to raise the maturity of story-telling, yet, that attempt turn out to be a no-go when series of games with more mature main characters failed to sell. So Vaan was inserted as the central character (which is basically a no-body), who just carry the other more interesting characters in story development.

The job reset function not being in the PC version did irritate me a lot because I didn't realise you couldn't reset your jobs till midgame. If they give you warnings throughout the game saying WARNING YOU CANT RESET YOUR JOB. Then I wouldn't mind

I do think the price for this game is too high , Its almost the same price with FFXV, While obviously FFXV has tons of cool things XII could never do at that time . Square sure always put their games at unreasonable prices, especially FF series. Even for a Pixel games like VII can cost 40 $ which is just too expensive for a game that old with outdated graphic like this
