Why the ♥♥♥♥ do I have to have a Rockstar Social Club account to play a single player game

Good game otherwise, but that pissed me off

I just played for 8 hours straight, thought I beat the game, turns out that was just act 1.
I haven't been this enthralled by a game- let alone a card game! -in awhile, this is so much fun.
There's a lot of fun strategy going on here, with just the right amount of puzzle solving sprinkled in, and I'm so excited to finish the game.

(Not very important for the review's sake, but I wanted to add, this is one of the rare occasions that I've bought a Steam game at full price. It is WELL worth it.)

Edit: Just beat the game, here's my thoughts.
HOLY HELL THE AMOUNT OF LAYERS THERE ARE IN THIS NARRATIVE.
I never expected to be legitimately frightened or startled by this game, and this game did that really well.
The story got REALLY interesting

My only real gripe/con about this game is the exposition scenes in the form of "found footage" after each act. (kind of made it feel like a Creepypasta)
For the most part I found the footage more annoying than interesting, but it did really make up for it right at the end.
Hoo boy, that ending.
You're gonna wanna watch the exposition scenes for the story first time through for sure.

On that note, I need to go play again. I love this game, and I am so glad I came across it.
9/10

I don't remember installing this, and I don't remember why.
But after playing through and getting all the achievements, I want my very own "Ass Checker" hat.

(in all seriousness though, it's an okay game. Feels like something I would have played on Kongregate years back.)

I love the art style, the music, and (to a degree) the dialogue.
Which would usually be enough for me, but I really don't enjoy this visual novel.

I was having trouble picking up on what exactly the "story" was, and the pacing is so slow and dull I can't bring myself to keep playing it. After two hours of reading what effectively just felt like me awkwardly listening in on a conversation between strangers, (unlike good visual novels, there's absolutely no interaction between player and story) I have no idea what story they're going for here. I was grabbed briefly by a couple interesting elements, such as Ned's introduction and why he arrived, but any interest I had was quickly drowned out by uninteresting conversation.

I do enjoy some of the dialogue, the characters do have a certain level of charm to them, (as another review said, they do sound very gen Z, but I think that makes it an uncomfortable kind of genuine.) but overall, it's just boring drivel.

I really wanted to like this game, the concept is so interesting to me. The game is hardly interesting at all.
This is just small talk simulator with a couple sprinkles of life, death, and coffee.
Tastes like an unsweetened, underbrewed, cold cuppa to me.

I'll try playing a little more, see if I can get through the story, (see if there IS a story) and maybe I'll update my review then. I don't have my hopes up.

tl;dr,
Story is kinda dumb.
Gameplay is solid.
Interesting monster designs, hate the other characters and location designs.
Thankfully not fetish-y.

Okay so.
Story's pretty simple, family of three moves to a new house, kid starts having nightmares, and like any kid, he gets spooked awake and almost pees himself, so now with the help of a little (apparently sentient) doll he found (which doubles as a flashlight) to guide him through and light the way he has to walk carefully to the bathroom and not get spooked along the way by his night terrors.

I think they actually portrayed the scenario fairly tastefully, the other reviews weren't lying when they said it doesn't come off as fetish-y.
It feels like a reasonable scenario, how it would seem to the mind of a child. He sees the monsters from his nightmares in the hall on the way, and has to act accordingly to not get spooked by them. (I'll get more into that later)
Still think the story is dumb though. I guess there's like, been kidnappings in the area, and the nightmares he gets I think are supposed to be like his gut feeling telling him there's more wrong than just the fact that his family's just moved, which can already be a worrying scenario for a kid. Anyway, there are little cutscenes that show small stuff like what appears to be a burglar/maybe the kidnapper sneaking around at night, or Nekomew's dad seeing a missing child poster just casually up on a neighbor's fence. Also there are a good handful of odd translation choices, like in this case the "Missing Child" poster literally reads, "Missing Kid".
The story is just kinda drab and lame.
They do a good job of showing things from Nekomew's perspective, especially the brief nightmare scenes, but outside of that, it's just bad.

The gameplay is interesting.
Oddly enough, despite it being a rhythm game, you don't have to be constantly moving with the rhythm, just aware of it. There's one monster that will scare him if you don't walk to the rhythm, but the rest just seem to have timing cues that you only need to worry about at one point, rather than the entire time the monster is present.
Basically, you can move off-beat to hurry on to the bathroom faster if you're careful about when you do it.
It's surprisingly well put together, gameplay-wise.
My one gripe in that department is that the default Dualshock controls say X to move, Square to use your flashlight, but instead Square is movement, Triangle is flashlight. You can edit the controls, of course, but it bothers me that the default says one thing while the actual controls say another.

Then there's character design. You can tell from looking at the game that it's bad.
Nekomew literally seems to be a recolor of Tails from Sonic.
The models of his parents look really dull and unappealing, and just seem kind of like a pair of throwaway fursonas.
The locations are colorful, but basic and bare-bones.
The monsters are the only redeeming thing in the design department, they have exaggerated but creepy designs loosely based on whatever his nightmares were about.
Oh, also, I just want to add, the little flashlight-doll he finds in the house gives me major Coraline vibes, The doll has gray fur and a blue nightgown, Nekomew is grey in blue PJ's, it just feels very Coraline inspired, and I can appreciate that.

In conclusion, I personally don't think it's a good game.
If you're on the rocks about it, don't try it.
If it still sounds like it could be fun to you, give the demo a go and see if you enjoy the gameplay before committing to it.

Edit: Never mind, two of the monsters later on have bullspit timing cues. It brings up the little "good timing!" sign when I flash my light at them, then they spook Nekomew anyway? And there's no notes for correction like, "Too soon!/Too slow!" to help you figure out the timing. I didn't mind this with earlier monsters, as the visual cues made it clear enough, and it wasn't too hard to figure out. But when it's giving me "Good timing" signs, then I get the scare anyway, that's baloney. Garbage.

This was an impulse buy when it was on sale, and I'm really glad I got it!
This is a really simple game, follows a fairly normal visual novel format.
All the ghosts have very unique personalities, I love all of them. (except Drea, but I can tell he'd still be someone's cup of tea. Cup of ectoplasm? Someone would definitely like him.)
The one-on-one dates after speed dating tend to be normal dates with a ghostly twist, (usually in clever ways, I enjoyed most of the dates) but a couple of the "dates" are just you guys doing normal ghost stuff. Which is also fine, though in some of them I would have liked to have more time with my date, like Vera.
Also something I thought was really nice about this game, is that the vast majority of the dates are very platonic rather than romantic. It feels like you're out having a good time with a new friend, and I love that. (now that I think of it, only one of the dates feels like anything more than friends. But I'm okay with that, they're still all worthwhile)
The only downside is that there isn't all that much replay value. You either wind up going on dates with them or you don't, and the dates all go on basically the same path regardless of your dialogue choices.

And ngl, I'm a bit of an achievement hunter when I can be, and getting all the achievements here was fairly easy to get. (I'll admit, I looked up a guide for the "All Dressed Up and Nowhere to Go" achievement, I didn't want to play through over and over to figure it out)

If you like the sound of this game, by all means go for it. I found it to be a nice, peaceful experience.

Wuppo feels a lot like Paper Mario, has a fairly generic (easily grasped, tricky to perfect) battle mechanic, (it was mostly dodging and timing that were tricky for me) cute and unique characters, an equally unique art style, a story with a very silly premise, a world that's fun to explore, and an overall fun and humorous adventure for all ages.
Also there's a surprising amount of lore in this game, most of which is optional, (like choosing to talk to elderly characters who were involved in historical events) but I feel works well to flesh out the world.

Not for people who want a game that takes itself seriously, don't want cutesy characters or themes, or generally silly premises.
I don't feel it overdoes any of these factors, but still feel it's important to mention if anyone reading particularly dislikes those sort of things.

I give it a solid 8/10, this made me feel really happy to play, and really felt like something I'd play on the Gamecube in my teens. Just carefree, story-driven fun.

This was fun! A nice and simple experience that reminded me of the original Kirby's Dream Land. Cute story and interactions, easy enough and friendly enough that a child could play, and a lot of very easy to earn achievements.
Good quick game, I enjoyed it!
