I’m not quite sure what to make of Panty Party. If you were hoping to play something in line with it’s urban dictionary meaning, then you will be sorely mistaken. With all of the H-Content that’s currently being released on steam, this game has none of that. It’s a half decent 3D brawler, where you fly around the arena, killing the few mob enemies before taking on the boss of each stage. On easier settings it’s very simple to play, but on hard it actually takes skill and quick reflexes to pass the stages, but doesn’t reward you for doing so. It doesn’t really offer anything new to the genre, but perhaps is the only game I know of where you can transform into a panty and beat the crap out of other panties. It does have a wide range of playable characters (each with unique attacks and specials), and a rather comedic storyline. I’ve put it as a recommend as it’s not unplayable, is unique, relatively short, provides a easy 100% achievement and for the reason that steam doesn’t have a neutral rating.

You play as Yurika, a high school girl who is identified as a warrior of love who can see and speak to flying panties (that only warriors of love can see) by Baka panty (idiot panty). She has the unfortunate experience of being turned into a panty and is forced to fight to save the world against forced panty love. On your journey you fight against other panty loving heroines and their panty partners and recruit them to your cause, while fighting some err unique panties including tentacle panties. I’m not making this stuff up.

For a 3D brawler to controls are simple but work quite well. Typically, each character will have 3 base attacks including a melee, ranged, and a status inflicting attack. Each have different cooldown timers, with enough melee hits knocking enemies over (if not defeating the outright) granting them a invulnerable period. A special meter builds up as you attack and take damage, which when used grants you a period of increased damage, and usually changes one of your attacks into something else which is unique for the character. You can sprint, dodge and fly (float) to evade attacks as once a combo of melee starts its impossible to break out of until you are knocked down. You have to watch out when fighting mobs as taking damage will break your combo, which is why it’s always a good idea to take out the weaker enemies first. You can finish the entire game quite easily without even trying any of the additional characters however some missions do recommend you play as set characters if you want to receive the stage unlocks. All the missions are the same, with there being about 5 different stages (for the 20 missions), with the only difference really being the types and amounts of enemies you fight against- some that do pose a threat. Each fight itself lasts under 5 mins, the mobs of enemies aren’t large and bosses are easy to destroy once they are on their own.

Between missions you get a anime style discussion between the characters as they plot their next move which breaks up the repetitive fighting. As the game only has a Japanese soundtrack English subtitles are provided, so this might not be the game for you if you hate reading translations. At least with the English subtitles you have an idea of what is actually happening. While the Japanese voice work was good in between missions the constantly repeating speech that happens as your special meter fills and activates becomes annoying. I couldn’t remember anything remarkable about the music tracks, as the sound effects from the attacks and characters so each drowns it all out.

The game provides a arcade mode where stages branch out into 1 of 6 paths for a extra scene with an character from the main story. Your character unlocks carry across, so it’s better to do this after finishing the main game, though the starting character is powerful enough to clear these. All of these fights are super easy and shouldn’t take more than 15 mins each.

I did have a few bugs where if the characters view managed to look to much up or down the screen would spin around, it was easy enough to re-orientate but it was distracting. The game isn’t made for 4K screens, I ended up playing in a window so things didn’t stretch out.

As mentioned this game is easy to get 100% achievement in- just finish the game and arcade mode, its almost impossible to not get 100%.
