This is another good example of something that deserves a mixed review option.

Halo CE Anniversary hasn't aged well, even with the new graphical options. The main issue comes from some gameplay decisions. The Warthog sections tend to go on for too long due to their sprawling size. Fighting the Covenant is usually fun until the Flood show up. It's still fun to have three-sided encounters between yourself, the Covenant, and the Flood, but fighting the Flood alone is bland at best.

The Flood are at their worst in the Library, which is my most disliked single level in all of the Master Chief Collection. You fight wave after wave of Flood in bland corridor after corridor while Guilty Spark occasionally spouts sci-fi technobabble about the plot. I once read an article in which someone claimed that the Library was secretly amazing, but I can't understand that at all.

The multiplayer also hasn't aged that well, and I'd only recommend playing it once or twice for nostalgic purposes.

I wouldn't recommend buying it on its own. Still, if you're interested in this from a historical perspective, then you might as well try it out if you buy the whole collection. Just go in with lowered expectations. It's great a game series as influential as Halo is still accessible on modern platforms, even if some games in the series haven't aged well.
