It deserves a bigger community. This is a really fun game with an appropriate amount of depth, and from my experience it is relatively easy to pickup and the community that exists is very friendly. I agree with others who say the fun is in going to see what the game has to offer rather than grinding AI bounties to reach the biggest ship you can. Trade, explore, fight, mine, etc. Don't just grind your life away (Unless you really want to ;).
